Who else has very little interest in the Four Nations tournament?

My proposition for the World cup played in North America and Europe:

North American group
USA
Canada
They play three games against each other.

Northern European group
Sweden
Finland
Norway
Denmark

Central European group
Germany
Switzerland
Austria
France

Eastern European group
Czechia
Slovakia
Latvia
Kazakhstan

Two from each group qualify for the quarterfinals and are seeded based on points.
 
I am looking forward to seeing Sid(?), Makar, McDavid and McKinnon on the same team for the first (last?) time. I won't be too stressed because I don't care (too much) who wins this silly tournament - I see it as a warm up for the Olympics in 2026.
 
You can't tell me people won't be watching when the NHL is on break and people are dying for some hockey. This will be all consuming. I don't expect the naysayers to admit it.

Every other best on best format is flawed so enjoy it for what it is. (WC's are not at a great time of year. Olympics are attended as the NHL pleases, and World Cups are not true World Cups).

We'll all be watching but, as the OP says, there is very little interest - as opposed to the Olympics or a World Cup.

I will admit, my interest has increased as it gets closer. But as I said previously, it only goes as far as the players want it to. If this is an All-Star game type of tournament then it will be lousy to watch. If the teams really want to win and are trying to win, then it will thrive. I agree, the 2026 Olympics is the key.

Was disappointed Russia won't be at the Olympics even, as they decided this week. So we are getting international hockey for a change, but even so it is incomplete.

I think what will make it good hockey are the underdog teams in Sweden and Finland, who will be more than motivated to try to knock off the US and Canada for bragging rights. I have a feeling the tournament is going to start out with an “All-Star’ish” vibe before the smaller nations motivate the bigger ones in to competing/caring more.

The more I think about it, the more I think it could be quite entertaining.

Bronze and Silver medals are not in the mix at all? Even the most recent best on best in 2016 we beat them in the semis but we were losing 2-1 late in the 2nd period. Going into the 3rd period it was 2-2. We sobered up and it was 5-2 midway through the 3rd and they got a late one to make it 5-3. But you're telling me that in the last best on best the team that took the champions in the semis to a draw in the 3rd period is irrelevant? Finland has never won a best on best, actually only 5 countries have, but they are in there at the 4 Nations/Olympics. So I think it is worth saying we are definitely missing some high profile talent.
 
I didn't have much interest, but recently, have come to realize that it will probably be some pretty damn good hockey. Certainly better than watching my team play a Feb NHL game.

I did not know that. I'm disappointed too.
 
My worry is the matches will degrade into a All Star-esk game where the winning team wins 12-11. If that happens, I will tune out immediately. We all will.
 
Definitely eager to watch the JT Miller v EP40 matchup. Other than the potential for some good stuff there, no interest in the tournament.

Russia was the last team to defeat Canada in the best on best Olympics

Russia lost to Canada in 2010 and Finland in 2014, but before that they medaled in 1998 and 2002 and were in the semis in 2006, they won gold in 2018 and silver in 2022, so they’re always relevant and a medal contender, but your avatar makes it impossible to get anything meaningful proven to you.

They will be a force at the 2030 Olympics, if they are there. Tons of young talent on the blueline which they haven’t had in recent best on best.

Talent wise Russia is easily #3 in the world nowadays, with the best wingers and goalies, drastically improved blue line and only seriously lacking elite centers
 
Not sure why folks wouldn't be excited to see the stars play from their countries. I'm excited. Not WJC or Olympic excited, but excited nonetheless.

What’s wrong with my avatar?

Still, they’re a team that can’t seem to win, and with that team in the tournaments, there’s going to be more important and more competitive teams that won’t participate.

Here here! It’s going to be great seeing the best nations play each other again with the best players.

If IIHF-sanctioned international hockey is your bar for comparison then of course you’ll be disappointed. I’d say it represents an upgrade over the All Star Game since that’s what it’s actually replacing.

Don’t pretend here, ok? your avatar clearly implies you’re biased towards Russia

Finland never won best on best Olympics and I don’t see you are saying the same about them knowing very well Russia has a way better and competitive roster

Totally disagree. No centers, aging superstars except Kaprizov, no blueline whatsoever and a national league that gets worse and worse by the year.
