Friedman brought up a good point on his 32 Thoughts podcast re: Booing national anthems being a thing now. America plays twice in Montreal for the tournament (at least in the regular round).
How much is Gary going to love the optics of Canadian fans booing the U.S. anthem during his pet tournament? Of course, there still is some time and things will likely cool down a little over the next week or so, but this is Montreal (and Boston) fans - both can be very passionate and very loud and I doubt either will resist the temptation to stir the pot (for which I am envious btw).

The animus at the heart of the booing doesn't make me more interested in this tournament, but rather less. I watch the NHL because it's more or less my only option for pro hockey, but the league is ultimately a US-based league with Canadian outposts, and along with my concerted effort to buy fewer US products (to the extent possible) I'll be consuming little of this NHL-only spectacle as a result.
I will normally watch anything where a Canadian uniform is being worn, even if I don't follow that sport. But this is a sham of a tournament, intended to be an exhibition primarily to satisfy a US audience, and I have only the vaguest notion of its existence. Dunno when it starts, or where all the games are being played. I hear Sidney Crosby is Canada's captain, but not much more than that.

Lots of people hating rn and claiming they won’t watch, but if the games are great and Canada and US are in the final, every one of those people will be tuning in.

It’s better than the all star game? I guess. But no. I would struggle to care if Russia was involved, since they’re not I definitely do not care.
I find it comical that in North America people seem to want Russia to play in these tournaments this and in Olympics etc good think that' not gonna happen its great they dont deserve to participate.. and ask thinks like why no Russia they are totally ignorant. Usa's war's are far from Russian orc stuff cant compare.Russia shouldnt be allowed to play for years even after war is over if being fair. Not to get too political but what do players like Panarin, Ovechkin, Shesterkin, Malkin and Kucherov have anything to do with Russian foreign policy, and for that matter what Putin does? So these people should be banned forever from representing their country because of what Putin decides? I mean USA literally go to war over everything yet we don’t hear a word about banning them from sports

You might want to check out "PutinTeam" for starters if you are genuinely asking what Ovechkin and Malkin have to do with Putin's politics. I know that it was started before the latest war, but they haven't distanced themselves from him either.
On your list Panarin doesn't belong, and as far as I know Shesterkin and Kucherov have no ties to PutinTeam either.
