Who else has very little interest in the Four Nations tournament?

I was interested in it due to the NHL having the backbone to keep the war-mongering country out of it (as it happens, there's another now). Less so after they started tracking Disgusting 8's empty-net goal-chase. But yeah, a nice idea, the tournament. Mark Stone already started it by diving into Heiskanen's knee - nothing you wouldn't expect from the Canadians - effectively taking out the most important player to his own team (by a really wide margin) out of the tournament. Effectively ending Finland's pitch before the tournament even started. And the nhl.com is silent. ESPN is silent. It's like Canada losing Makar and having Chris Tanev as the next-best man up while Dennis Cholowski being called up to don the maple leaf . Looking at it right now, all of the three others have an even better shot to the final - Finland is the was-there-before-Stone.
Yes, I'm sure Mark Stone made that play just to take Heiskanen out of this tournament.

You can't be f***ing serious here? and as far as that "incident" goes it was simply a play that happens in a fast paced reaction sport such as hockey. Hintz trips Stone and as he is falling he naturally tries to angle heiskanen off as he is attempting to exit the zone, big deal. It's too bad that heiskanen had to get injured on the play but that's hockey and ten times worse happens in this sport. If a Finnish player had of made that play on Makar they would be making the case I just made and saying shit happens!! and Canadian fans would be saying what Finnish fans are saying about stone, in other words just nationalistic bullshit.

But to make it a conspiracy and worse yet saying " this is what you would expect from Canadian players" is incredibly stupid and stuff you could legitimately be reported for around here.

It takes an extremely limited horizon to believe that this tournament is of any relevance. Any tournament organised by the NHL with only NHL players has nothing to do with international hockey and is just a money-printing machine for the owners. The 4 Nations may be of interest to the countries involved at best, but I don't think the rest of the hockey world gives a damn.
We were at the Worldchampionships in Prague just for the fun of it.

As always.

Trump nowhere to be seen ... remember.

I still think it'll be great hockey. I do wonder if it will be considered a best on best win for the winning country on HF? .

Eg. Canada won the last 3 best on best.. would this be 4 in a row.

Finn's have never won a best on best.. does this count?

US have not won a senior best on best since 1996.. does this count?

Or do we wait to see how wina first?lol

It feels too fabricated for my liking, and it's not like they're actually representing their nation like in the Olympics or WCH even. Just a mid-season, "best on best" competition which I'm skeptical whether even the players have much interest in.

People are saying they have no interest and then watch the game threads be hundreds of pages long dissecting every second.
I think this tournament is a terrible idea but it still matters to me. I want my guys to drop out.

Not only would they avoid getting injured for no good reason, but that amount of rest for your top guys could be the deciding factor when it comes to contention for a playoff spot or success in the post season

Also consider what it would mean to have one of your stars seriously injured in this tournament. Youd probably be thinking this tournament wasnt such a great idea after all

Hard not to lose interest after the news of the Heiskanen injury.

In a best-on-best tournament, our defense isn't even NHL playoff caliber. And we have no PP QB. 5-on-5, takes away from the offense too when the defense sucks at transporting the puck.

Can't wait for Risto to play 24 minutes against McDavid and co.

By far the worst injury that could've happened for us.

Canada USA game is going to be intense after today's news. Can't wait
Why? Most of the Canadian players play on US teams and live full time in the states. They have American born kids. They'll retire in the US.
Do you really think they care about Canada or are they playing for their own egos!

If they had any balls they'd refuse to play, tell Gary to FO.

The atmosphere in the arenas will be intense. And that will carry out onto the ice in some capacity.

I mean you can not be interested in it and refuse to watch it, but the majority of people are going to somewhat excited for this, including the players. Reasons why:

-The NHL has ostracized best-on-best hockey for nearly a decade, even more of you don’t count the 2016 WCOH. The 4 Nations is the closest thing deprived-fans have gotten.

- I think every hockey fan would rather see this over an all-star game. In fact, I think any hockey fan would take ANYTHING over the all-star game

-The players have stated that they are actually taking this seriously.

-With the Olympics less than a year away, this tournament will garner a lot of talk in the coming weeks and the months following with the selections and hype of 2026.

-The Canada-USA game is being played in the Bell Center on a Saturday night, Long weekend. That place will go crazy for a midget game being played under the same circumstances.

No Russia and Czech Republic = joke international tournament.

A Canada vs USA best of 3 or 5 would've been a better idea. They’re the only teams the average NHL fan cares about anyway.
But alas, less games less money.

I think that the most reasonable thing would be to view it in the same vein as winning a summit series (cultural significant aside) or the Challenge Cup or Rendezvous 87 in terms of prestige. It's something and worthwhile to win, but it's not quite the level of an actual best on best tournament. Of course the winning country is likely to play it up more though.

Let's not count the 2016 world cup either given the moronic choices the NHL made. This thing is likely going to end up more prestigious than that bad joke.

It's not that serious. Lol.

This might be the stupidest f***ing idea the NHL has ever come up with and that's saying a lot. Guys are either gonna kill themselves for no reason over a meaningless award or no one is gonna take it seriously

If I watch it's because I need hockey
