Who else has very little interest in the Four Nations tournament?

How can you not like best on best hockey tournament as a hockey fan? This ain’t gimmick all star games, every conditions point to players taking this seriously (they wanted it, preselect showing for OG)

How is only including 4 countries "best on best?"

I do like the tournament idea, I think NHL learned a bit from the criticisms of the 2016 tourny. The problem isn't gimmicks, it's worldly circumstances that make this a bit tough to care about fully. Without Russia, it's not really best on best in the strictest sense, though all four nations ARE competitive enough.

TBH, the NHL should have probably just waited until the olympics.

International hockey lost its unique flair decades ago and russia has not been an international hockey force for a long time, who cares if they are not there. USA has replaced as Canada's #1 rival.

Russia should be represented. Keep politics out of hockey. Stop punishing players for things their governments do.
Why? We the citizens have been punished for the idiotic things our governments have done i.e. selling my grandkid's future out to send billions upon billions to foreign countries, or giving free heathcare and education to people who aren't even citizens with our tax money. If their "punishment" is not being included in a meaningless hockey tournament I'd say they're doing a lot better than we are.

I have to question whether people who aren't interested are even hockey fans. Sure, it would be even better if there were more teams but it's going to be a display of hockey played at the absolute highest level. Sign me up for that every time.

I don’t think I care. Maybe once the games start I will but I’m annoyed it’s interrupting the season. I’d probably be a lot more hyped if Russia were playing.

What I'd like to respond with would probably get me sent to the sin bin for a bit... so let's just say fark off with your gatekeeping.

There are plenty of well articulated reasons throughout the 18+ pages so there's no need to repeat them. However you can include me in your self proclaimed category of 'non hockey fan' as I'm not buying into this nonsense. Will I miss watching assorted games for two weeks, you bet. Will I watch any of the 4 Nations? Maybe a few minutes the first day...to confirm if the players actually give a crap or not. Sure you'll have some nonestablished players trying to get noticed, but the vast majority of the 'stars' will most likely be playing not to get hurt/rest up a bit for the push to the playoffs, and that makes for tremendously boring hockey. I have better things to occupy my entertainment time for those couple of weeks.

But enjoy your status as a true hockey fan...

72' Summit Series
'80 Miracle on Ice
'87 Canada Cup.

Those wins meant a great deal because the world was a big place it was "us vs them", capitalism and liberal democracies vs communism and fascism.

The world is much smaller today and frighteningly, the differences between nations of the world are smaller.

I may watch the Finals, I don't know. I am certainly not very interested as I was during the '87 Canada Cup, the only one in my lifetime I cared about outside of the olympics as a Canadian (2002, 2010). 2002 and 2010 wins weren't nearly as satisfying as defeating the Russians in '87 there's no question. That was the most stacked Canadians team with Lemieux and Gretzky on the same line.

the NHL has fumbled international hockey so bad it's not even funny.

They should have just ran with the Olympics every four years then the WCOH ever four years in between the Olympics (IE 2016,2020,2024,2028 etc.).

Soccer has best on best tournaments in the same way, for example, the WC is every 4 years and if you're a European nation you are every 4 years as well in between the WC. The Copa America is traditonally every 4 years, but with some exceptions in the last decade.

I’m expecting all star event level hitting, and playing hard but not hard enough in order to avoid injury, which is the right call. I’d be disappointed if my team’s star player gets a season ending injury during a meaningless NHL cash grab.

Man, you’ve really eaten up everything you’ve been sold eh

A u23 NA team would make this tournament extremely popular on this forum.

It's all cool when the states do it though right? Remember when we banned US from the Olympics?
Yup. That's exactly what I meant.

But seriously, if you can't see the difference there is no helping you.

If invading sovereign nations out of greed and a desire to be an empire is disqualifying, this thing is about to be 3 Nations
Keep reading that Chomsky.
