Say you trade Buchnevich, you still have Panarin, Kreider, Lafreniere, Kakko, and Kravtsov. And that assumes you don't get a wing back for Buchnevich, and doesn't include someone like Barron who will be pushing for a spot. I'm just not sure where you slot in Gauthier to give him a "true chance" or "real shot" or whatever. He's going to be reliant on whatever ES TOI he gets on the third or fourth line to produce.

I'd rather not give him away because there's still a chance he becomes something, but at the same time I'd rather have Rooney and/or Blackwell who I'm confident can help us win this year.

Good lord, Gauthier who couldn’t stay in the lineup cause he didn’t do anything we want keep. Blackwell and Rooney who actually contributed in all roles they were given are whatever?

It doesn't matter which of the three we lose, as they are equally as important to the Rangers moving forward.

Which is to say...not important or necessary.

I'm assuming we're not exposing Goodrow since he's an UFA and Ron Francis will not be interested in Tony D. But yes, if it was up to you.

I'm on Team Gauthier.

most of the board prefers some variation of keep JG.

?
is that official list due?
Was it 5pm today?
Or am I confusing that w/something else?

I actually think Seattle will take Rooney, they will get better top six players in the draft and free agency then whatever Goat has shown, who you ain’t sticking on a 4th line.

Guessing the Rangers protected Blackwell.

IMO
LaF - Chytil - Gauthier on paper is fully functional
[scorer-facilitator-driver of play]

also asking good talent to elevate deadwood is not likely to work out.

give JG a chance w/guys who arguably look like they can deliver a whole line.

I mean, like with other marginal players we've had in the past, I'm all for them forcing their way into larger roles on the team. I don't want to just hand a spot to Gauthier just for shits and giggles, because he has a profile that on paper should play well with other players.

When you're a guy like him who hasn't done much with the chances you've had, you really need to force the issue to get a bigger role. It won't--and shouldn't--be handed to him.

I’m torn. Blackwell has utility but the temptation to try and replicate last year’s success is too high for the NHL old boys club. Rooney is viewed as what he is; a 4C, no more. I’d almost rather they take Blackwell just to avoid the idiocy of having him block kids. Rooney will at least only ever be slotted at 4C.

So…

Laf - Zib - KK
Bread - Strome - Krav
Kreider - Chytil - Gauthier
Barron - Goodrow - Blackwell/Rooney

Is where we’re at if we move Buch and don’t touch the forwards. Obviously that’s not what I guess will be the final result of the off season, but that’s the moment?

Goodrow alone is a God’s honest upgrade. To our PK, faceoffs and difficulty to play against. I like it. To be honest, I just don’t see Chytil becoming the 2C we need. He doesn’t have the right game to be Panarin’s C. He doesn’t really have a center’s game at all. Rather move him to 3RW and sign Wennberg as 3C.

Laf - Zib - KK
Pan - Strome - Krav
Kreider - Wennberg - Chytil
Barron - Goodrow - Gauthier

That’s a pretty solid, young, more versatile lineup with Goodrow and Wennberg both being pretty good defensively.

Well 3RW is really the only opening unless he’s taking a top six spot from KK/Krav, which is possible as he’s probably a nice fit besides Panarin.

I don't have a definitive preference for any outcome. The Rangers are one of those teams that are probably making available some of the least desirable players in the expansion draft.

Gauthier's had enough opportunity, in my mind, to show something and he hasn't. Blackwell's been a welcome surprise but his best role next year is to be an extra forward as we should be hoping Kravtsov and Barron establish themselves in the top 9. People write as though an effective 4C doesn't matter and is a dime-a-dozen; that's not really true on a team that expects to be highly competitive, and we don't want to bury a kid there as we have been doing. Take Gauthier, protect Rooney. My guess, though, is that in that circumstance the Kraken take Blackwell instead.

Given the lack of NHL level center depth in the Rangers system I vote to keep Rooney.

God forbid two centers other than Rooney go down to injury then what
