pick 1 forward and 1 d

these are the top 4 UFA available at the deadline.

Not putting Pasta since I bet he stays in Boston but if he somehow makes it to UFA in July, Rangers better be looking at him.

Fine with rentals if they don't cost a lot, this season should be about integrating the kids into the core of the team, take a run next year.

Pastranak will be looking for 10 or so on the open market anyway, we're capped out for that type of contract.

Not to be rude, but none of those.

Patrick Kane sucks. He's at the point where I don't even need to qualify it with an explanation. It's not 2015 anymore. The sun is hot and Patrick Kane sucks.

We have Zibanejad, Trocheck, and Chytil down the middle. I'm not paying the full price for Horvat to put him at wing nor am I paying that price for a non-need.

Mikkola is replacement level and BLOWWWWWWWWS at offense. He makes Hajek look like a PMD and Miller look like Coffey.

Gavrikov bleeds shots against.

The latter two are probably improvements on Hajek, but that bar is nonexistent and there are probably cheaper options.

An actual d man

Trade the Dallas pick in the summer for basically what they got from us, a kid who is ready to play, and on his ELC.

Wrong Chicago player. Max Domi would be a better move. Costs less assets than most of the forwards out there would. I wouldn't really look at his advanced stats, since Chicago is a dumpster fire. When he was on decent teams, his numbers were a lot better (see Carolina last year). He's just getting tons of opportunity on Chicago to put up points playing with Kane.

The fit here is playing him with Panarin. Worst case, you give up a 2nd on a player that can be a 2nd/3rd liner for you and you have space to get a rental LD (none of the players mentioned above). Moves Vesey and Goodrow into better lineup spots and doesn't sacrifice playing time for a young guy since Gallant doesn't play them in that spot.

For a LD, since the combo of Hajek/Harpur/Jones doesn't seem to be preferred by the coach, I'd look into Gostisbehere. Again, another player in a dumpster fire, so his analytics look like trash there. When he was on Philly, they were respectable. He's a puck mover, and would take over PP2 from Trouba (a HUGE plus). He'd be sheltered on a 3rd pair and not a top pair as he is now. Would think it wouldn't cost a lot for him either.

Depending on how this postseason goes, assuming we get there, consider shedding the bigger contracts for 2b / 1c type prospects (no way our vets get us locked second liners or even probable first liners) and/or first-three-round picks.

I don't see the point. our assets are limited and we're stuck until Kakko or Laf are useful.

Chychrun.

Use the assets Gallant wont.
Chychrun could be an interesting play. I was at the Coyotes game Sunday and he played really well. The Coyotes aren't ever going to get two firsts and a prospect for him but a 24 first, a 23 second and a player (maybe Matt Robertson or even Zac Jones) for Chychrun at 50% could be the starting point for a deal. Radio silence from my few remaining Coyote peeps.

Chychryn is pretty mid, i don't see him as a huge upgrade over KAM/Lindgren and certainly not what it would take to acquire him...

his deal is extremely friendly for a top4d, but i don't think he's that good.

Any thoughts on Gostibehere as a rental if cheap enough ? He seems to be trending for a decent offensive season ? How bad/good is his defense and what are his passing skills like and foot speed...I have not watched him for a few years . I think we need a Dman more than a high end forward . In fact...I would take two Dmen if we got them cheap enough if we plan on diving into the rental pool .....which they will do as we all know.

I'm leaning towards standing pat.

The team is young and they'll have more kicks at the can.

They're not a bonafide contender right now, today.

The pool of available players mostly sucks wind.

We have no cap space.
I wish it worked like football where open cap space now could be carried over to the next season.

hes terrible defensively, and only good because he's getting fed minutes. He'd be a 3rd pair guy now for us, and that would evaporate all offense.

I'd go as much as Kravtsov, Hajek or Jones, 2024 1st and a 2023 2nd that turns into a 1st if we make the cup.
