I just can’t blame a GM for Marner not scoring a single goal and sucking every game. None of us expected that after his season. He let us all down (including Dubas).

So, if you hire an employee who stinks at his job, it's his fault not yours? I believe it is the person's job who is doing the hiring to properly evaluate the talent of the person he is hiring. On this team Dubas failed on so many levels.

He finished 4th in scoring. How were we supposed to know he was going to be bad at his job?

It's on Matthews & Marner for not producing, and Keefe for not helping them do so or adjusting.

Going 7 games without your 2 best players producing well and with JT out means that the team did enough to win otherwise.

Literally that still comes back to Marner

All I’m saying is change Marner to a young Kane and ask yourself, do you we win this series?

For me it’s an emphatic yes.

Marner wanted to be paid more than any winger in the game. He thought he was more valuable than Kane.

Once you do that, I have no sympathy or leniency for you. He cost us this series.
No what I'm saying is: We all know the player. Was it a mistake to keep him around? Was it a mistake to pay him 11 mill? I would say so. We shouldn't have this problem in the first place.

Also to your point - who cares if that's what he wanted. Who give him the contract?

He has disappeared during the playoffs. He's small and what works during the regular season does not necessarily translate to the playoffs. For all the money Dubas is making, it is his job to figure that out. This does not hurt Marner one bit. He is now free to enjoy all that Dubas gave him.

I voted for other because I blame....EVERYONE.

Bad GM decisions lead to bad roster decisions and bad coach. Bad coaching decisions lead to less utilization of full roster. Bad stars = inability to play at an adequate level.

Campbell and his softiest cost the series. Stat line don't matter, that we learned last year when loss was Andersen's fault when he had .935 sv%

I want to somehow blame this on Frederik Andersen. Can you guys help me do that? I was told he was the only reason we didnt win a playoff series the last couple of years despite him carrying us in the regular seasons.

Our best players didn't play like our best players ........ again.

But, I think the spot light is not focused enough on Shanny. I always wondered if he had the credentials/skills to build a winner. Shanny made the key hires.

If we are talking more about a rebuild versus a little tinkering, it might make the most sense to start at the top and then work your way down. So, on that basis, Shanny & Dubas deserve to have the bright light of the spotlights shine on them.

Oh, I was surprised that it took this long to get this thread up on the board. LOL.

The players, plain and simple.

Even without Tavares (and Muzzin the last 1.5 games), this team should have run through the Habs. Not even close.

Dubas constructed a weak/flawed team, and that would have been talked about in subsequent rounds. But it's not on him that the players couldn't beat an inept Canadiens team, even after holding a 3-1 series lead.

Marner and Matthews need to be better. Rielly was okay, but he needs to be better as a #1. Even the grind guys who need to chip in here and there to alleviate the load off the big guys -- Engvall, Mikheyev, Simmonds, Thornton -- were all pathetic.

So is Campbell supposed to deke through the middle of the ice and score on Price? Because until the 58 minute mark the leafs scored exactly zero goals.

When your team gets shut out goaltending isn't the problem.

Keefe and Marner get the most blame from me. Dubas gets some too for the brutal Foligno trade, though I do think he built a good team on paper.

Don't know what Keefe saw with Thornton to keep playing him. Powerplay has been brutal for months and Thornton is still on it...don't quite get it.

Marner simply did not have a good series and when you demand top dollar that's a problem.

Dubas should completely tear into his star players (especially Marner) in his press conference. Don't let them off the hook and protect them from scrutiny.
