This Poll is for 2 weeks. Hopefully they run off a nice winning streak and this poll distances it off of Page 1, and someday we can all laugh about it, after winning this years' Stanley Cup!

My 2 cents,
I don't see how anyone can say it's anyone "other than" the players themselves.
With basically the same team as last season. You cannot blame Reilly Smith as he has actually played better than Kreider and Mika and all of their expectations. Nobody can save them from their personal hell of a duo.

Drury? Ridding Trouba and his contract, everybody wanted (even Trouba)
Although I will still say that trading KK, will eventually hurt badly as he will eventually grow into an adult. He isn't the "main reason" for their losing.
Getting Shesty signed obviously was their priority. I suppose (Ummm) Good job.

Laviolette? What is he doing differently? Finally dropping Mika down, and benching Kreider. Pinpointing the supposed leaders and whom they NEED to perform.

Which brings me back to the players. WHO exactly is playing as well or BETTER than last year? Cuylle? Chytil? (Better than NOT playing at all) So, seriously who else?

I'm not Drury, but if I were.....I'd go into the locker room and ask "who wants out'?
OR, are you guys going to right the ship? It's up to you, look in the mirror. Period.

I went with "the entire organization", which includes the players .... It appears NYR does not focus enough on development of young players, which likely means Miller & Schneider & others are not as good as they could be. Laffy is not featured on the power play. Some of our current pain was set in motion back in the Gorton era - Trouba contract, Quinn's coaching, bailing on the rebuild. Some is Drury's doing - Buchnevich trade, trading assets for Kane & so on.

I don't know is responsible for Ortmeyer & Glass running player development. Seems like an odd decision.

Some of the bad managerial decisions are likely driven by Dolan or MSG people thinking mostly of immediate revenue.

And then the players who were very good a couple of years ago have completely fallen apart. Don't know what's up with Mika. Either he's injured or has some debilitating condition or lost his confidence totally or doesn't want to play hockey anymore ... it's strange. We can't have 5 more years of this.

The coach should bench him & Kreider or at least keep them off PP1 & limit their minutes. They are bad hockey players now.

The team wasn't good enough on paper going into this season, and so while the players throwing in the towel is why we are where we are, management is responsible for not being able to put together a team that would ever be favorites after round 2 of the playoffs.

Buchnevich, Goodrow, Trouba trade, the draft selections... Gorton and Drury bear at least some of the responsibility.

Even if everything was going great with the players and their morale, we'd still be 1-2 big pieces away from being the leaguewide cup favorites.

I think it’s too many players who don’t care about winning. I’m sure they think they care, but they won’t do whatever it takes. Which is whatever. I get it. It’s just a game at the end of the day.

As for me, show me either skill or heart. If not, I don’t care. I don’t have to watch hockey to be happy.

Us fans could see the issues seeping through no matter how far the Rangers went. I'm blaming everyone. It's like they all purposely make decisions to fail and piss us off.

Feelin' good on a Wednesday
Like most failures... it starts at the top & trickles on down.

I'd put Lavi last because what could ANY coach do with the entitled pansies & SEVERE regression on his bench?

- The management is constructed by nepotism

- Those people make the decisions (usually bad ones) on drafting, development, scouting etc

- The players then get here & are either imperfect fits, ruined, regressing or just not great in the 1st place, yet they are CODDLED into oblivion until they're so entitled that you reap this situation.

...and round and round it goes because nothing EVER changes here

I think everyone shares responsibility, but not all of the blame is equal.

I mostly blame the players. They can say whatever they want to the media, but this is one of the few teams I’ve seen and I genuinely question their effort. If they were giving it their all and the puck wasn’t bouncing their way they would be one thing. I also think they lack the mental fortitude to win. It’s like the Panthers smacked them in the mouth and they never recovered.

I blame Gorton and Drury for some roster moves. We all knew the 5v5 play needed to be better, and the defensive core (especially LHD) needed to be improved. They’ve relied way too much on special teams and goaltending to carry them, and now it’s all gone cold.

Laviolette gets the least amount of blame, but he’s not completely innocent either.

I also think organizationally there’s an issue with developing players. When the cap was implemented Tom Renney played a major role in revamping the scouting and development. Remember when they’d find a guy in the later rounds and they’d become solid contributors? That feels like an eternity ago.

I remember Espo had a story about a NY Rangers party. Espo was upset about losing. I do not remember if it was a very respected player (or his wife) that said it doesn't matter if they lose or win. They get paid the same.

All the above.

Players wise, everyone with exception of Panarin and Cuylle have regressed significantly.

Coaches. Why the f did they change their NZ and defensive scheme? They were 6 wins away from glory, do they think it was the scheme that failed them? Going into year 2 of a coach players should be getting comfortable with a scheme not learning a new one.

The only exception is faceoffs which have improved. Otherwise we are terrible at defending the rush and defending the cycle. On top of that we can't generate or sustain a forecheck.

Drury didn't follow through with his off season plan. He let Trouba call the bluff instead of laying down the cards. Trouba single handedly cost us playoff games. It was the right call for Drury to move on and get a 1RW but he failed. Then he doubled down to try and save face and signed Igor.

The team has no identity. Yes in the past couple years they started drafting dogs on the bone like Berard and Sykora. Yet they went out there and got another has been to play with the wonder twins and thought 3 scoring lines was the makeup this team needed. Almost forgetting that we got manhandled in the last 3 playoffs.

Going from the top regular season performer to the basement in less than a year is an entire group effort.

Culminatiom of Bad scouting/drafting.
Bad contract decisions.
Terrible trades.
Bad coaching and system.
Finally piss poor effort and care on the ice.

I'd rather start over with an expansion draft roster of cast offs that want to prove someone wrong then this cast of "whoah is me" babies. These grown men are acting like babies that got their toy (Goodrow and Trouba) taken away.

Hank watched his best friends traded away. While he was a shell of his former self did anyone see him give up? Did anyone see him give a thousand yard emo stare? He was pissed that he couldn't stop shots his 26 yr old self could easily manage. Where is that emotion on this team?

Oh that's right. Our $11.5M goalie decided to take an early shower. Our leadership have all called it quits. They quit on themselves.

Plenty of blame to go around...

A heavy handed GM who risks alienating players by not doing the bare minimum

A core group of entitled players nearing or in the middle of their late career downslide who can't imagine accountability, either taking it or it being forced upon them.

A coaching staff that isn't doing itself any favors by doubling down on trying to play the shitty players out of their slumps.

I mostly put the blame on the players for this but it's easy to see no one is without blame in the end.

This all comes down to unfair distribution of ice time, opportunity, and $$$.

PP1 plays as long as they want, regardless of results. PP2? Who is even on PP2? Not only that, Zib and Kreider are also PK1. They do it all.

PP=Stats=$$$ especially for younger players coming off their RFA deals.

Lessons are learned the hard way by some, and not at all by others.

Jones or Mancini make a mistake, they get benched or sent down. KAM makes mistakes like a chef uses salt in a kitchen. It's literally in every dish he makes. Yet he has not once to my knowledge been a healthy scratch to drive this point home. He is above reproach. Seems fair.

Greed.

Nobody takes less to sign here. That ended with Kevin Shattenkirk. SO now while we may be brothers on the ice, and our wives are besties and our kids play together, my agent doesn't give a f*** about any of that. When its time for me to get my bag , it's time for you to pack yours . THey must look around the room and wonder who's next to go when they have to make cap room for Drury to sign KAM for a deal that twice what he worth because people are so blinded by his potential that they can't see that the product is trash.

Now you have a Primadonna, entitled, overpaid top tier of players who get all the perks and a bottom tier who are on show me deals with no chance to show anything, and that bottom tier is the one that's supposed to go to war and claw this team out of this when the going gets tough. Let me know how that works out. Sounds a lot like Toronto.

Let Mika and ZIb fall on their face. Igor, do you think you can do it by yourself? Go ahead champ. That's what you get paid the big bucks for. KAM, maybe the nobody covering the net front strategy will come around, you may just be a visionary ahead of your time.

Meanwhile, we can blame the bottom half of the lineup for not playing physical or blocking shots or picking up their checks because that's what they're expected to do as lower end players. THe harder work. For less money, for less loyalty, to be a cap casualty as soon as the math says so because the top end mistakes won't be moveable or have contractual guarantees that they don't get their feelings hurt or their lives disturbed.

This season is on the brink of being a complete failure.

I'm blaming all of it. From management to Igor wanting a big fatty check, to Zibanejad needing anxiety hugs, to skating issues, to heart, to Lav not changing a single thing other than pulling names out of a hat for the roster lineup.

This team fooled fans last year. What we're seeing is more of the stretch they had last season when they were a bottom 10 team for over a month, and less of the team that battled back.

There's performance issues on the rink. Clear as day that assignments are missed because of lack of effort or careless awareness. What's being done to address that? There's no support. There's no pressure on the forecheck. There's no cycle. The defense can't win a foot race. The forwards are still in another arena, wanting the puck for some home-run pass. You can't somehow lose all the basics.

Lav doesn't even bother with time-outs anymore. He just stares in disappointment.

Glad to see the entire org as a choice. It's been a true team effort. Ownership for allowing nepotism and relationships to dictate the FO. Drury for having no couth when dealing with the players at the same time being to scared to make the needed changes. The coaches for not implementing a proper fast system of support for modern hockey and blocking out the noise. The players (only some, but unfortunately the important some) for letting their personal grudges and irritation effect their play.

Probably the most on one page the team has ever been, ironically.
