I loved being Leetch when I was young. Until like the age of 10, I used to yell Brian Leetch! when i skated backwards along the blueline and ripped a slapshot. When i played forward I would always be Yzerman. I would always buy Yzerman sticks.

Pierre Larouche.

His tear in '85-86 when he came back from exile really made an impression on me when I was younger.

Which is ironic, because I grew up to not like softish goal scorers.

When playing, it was Pierre Larouche.

Ditto. We must all be around the same age.

When I was 10 I played pickup games vs my dad and his friends in 1984 and they would call me Lucky Pierre when I scored.

And when I played goalie in roller hockey I always yelled out 'Vanbies!' when I made a save

Theo Fleury.

Even though the highest level of hockey I'll play for the rest of my life is beer league, I still wear yellow laces as a tribute to one of my all time favorites.

Nicky Fotiu lol nance the name and even had a few scraps wearing his jersey in pick up games lol

Rick Middleton. Hey, I'm old! ;)
I would practice shooting a tennis ball at a couch in our covered porch. Needless to say the upper corner shots resulted in some broken windows. At least my shot could break glass. ;)

I'm shocked by the lack of Kariya votes. He was one of the more popular players during his time.

Pavel Bure

In net I would pretend to be Richter too. Also I would pick up my foot when taking a wrist shot and pretend I was Messier. I felt very cool.

Everyone. "Messier, to Zubov, to Leetch, Score!!"

Making pretend I was passing from one player to another. Good times.

I did this. I would just roller blade for hours by myself shooting at my net in the street saying different players. I would also pretend I was doing highlights around the league and pretend to be players from everywhere. Good times. Miss those days

It is cool to see some non-superstar names mentioned in the thread. Funny how that works.

The video game guys hate this thread...Who could they pretend to be a player with a rating of 85? LOL!!

So true... I think, I don't quite understand your statement... However I feel like people would be able to tell if someone's good or not without nhl 14 ratings

I'd pretend to be Mike York

I had a group of 7-10 kids that would play driveway hockey after school most days. We would all claim to be our favorite players and talk **** to everyone else. Being where I lived at the time we had a Mix of rangers/devils fans. We also had one flyers fan and one Islanders fan. To that extent. I feel like anyone who was young in the 90's (late 80's) is lying if they didnt say Gretzky. Hell we used to get into fights over it and then everyone would pick someone else when whoever called Gretzky first got him. I was fat so i was always stuck in goal and went with Richter. When i got a little older and started to grow into my body I would play RD or RW and in my mind i would pretend to be Leech even though at that point we were a little to old to be claiming that stuff publicly. Sadly around the 96-97 season i stopped following hockey and got really into amateur wrestling and Olympic wrestlers.
