Who are the best older prospects that will excel once in NHL

A) This thread is about older prospects. B) it’s his first year acclimating to small ice, he looks like a late bloomer if you ask me. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him make the Sabres out of camp next year. He’s got an absolute rocket of a shot.
Olofsson is old for a prospect. If he was anything special, he would be destroying the AHL at his age.

A) Yes, I know
B) Agreed

But as an older prospect he should be doing more than he is to be considered any sort of special. I have been following Olofsson for a couple of years and thought he had a real chance to surprise this year and at the very least light the AHL on fire. He has not done that.

I think that any European skater who goes from Europe straight to the AHL at the age of 23 is a tweener at best (exceptions are very rare). He will maybe get a cup of coffee in the NHL late this season and then turn 24 before next year.

That's not great.

I mean, you’re probably right since so few make the nhl, but top 20 in overall scoring and top 3 in rookie scoring isn’t awful.

Ya i didnt realize he was having such a good offensive season. I see his 2 year extension that he has signed is a 1 way deal starting next season too
Yup, plays huge minutes too. Was their best d-man in the playoffs last year when they won the Calder. Leafs really expect him to be a real good, cheap, effective player for them the next 2 seasons with the leafs cap crunch. He should be up with the leafs now but unfortunately is hurt at the moment or he’d be filling in for Gardiner/Dermott.

What would you say his ceiling is? Reasonable expectations if he comes over?
Well he’s not bad defensively but the offensive side sure is his strongest side, so he should have a shoot at a Top 4 spot but Top 6 should be more realistic.

Depending on which team he goes to and how he develops he should have potential to score about 30-40 points if he continues to develop as he has done this year.

Samuel Morin (2013 1st round pick)

Finally healthy and very close to getting his shot with the Flyers. He's currently the #7 defensemen but #6 Robert Hagg is struggling mightly. Morin is a 6'7 behemoth that can actually skate. Will be a good bottom pair partner for a puck-mover that can PK, shut teams down, protect the front of the net, and beat ass.

A little more history on him..

In the 2018 Flyers training camp, there were 3 D prospects vying for 1 spot on the team. Sanheim, Hagg, and Morin. Morin was the most consistent of the bunch. He had a great camp and clearly earned a spot. Instead, for some inexplicable reason, Hagg was given the spot by the since fired Hakstol/Hextall tandem. Morin and Sanheim returned to the AHL. Morin eventually got called up and played 2 games before blowing out his knee and missing a calendar year. Sanheim is now playing on the top D pair with Provorov, Hagg is now arguably the worst dman in the league, and Morin is healthy.

Grigori Dronov hasn't been drafted yet, but is a KHL dman who just turned 21 and is playing top pairing for playoff team Metallurg. He has been injured quite a bit this season and last. He could be a guy who fits this profile as a very good free agent signing around 23/24 yo.

The other Sebastian Aho, 23, is looking pretty good in the AHL right now. I've watched him a fair bit and am certain the dude has a NHL future, just don't know if it is with the Isles. If there is any injury, it's a 100% shot he's getting called up.

Cooper Marody. Age 22, great final year in Uni, PPG so far in his AHL career, has been solid in a few looks on the Oilers. Too versatile and intelligent not to make the bigs, could be a 50 point ‘core’ middle sixer for a team at some point.

Man I love old thread bumps like these. It's like looking at your high school yearbook - kinda cringe, some laughs, sometimes you're impressed that your colleagues did something right.
