White jerseys at home?

I can never get used to dark jerseys at home. Still throws me off. White looks crisper too for the home team.

When visiting, I want to see the Blackhawks' and Red Wings' red. Rangers' blue. Penguins' blue and gold. Stars's green. Flyers' orange. Etc. Not *home team colour* and white from every opposition. Hockey jerseys are by far the best. I want to see that variety.

But why would you not want to see your teams colors at home. Personally I want more Colors vs Colors game, the red blue, or red green matches or black vs orange. Mainly I dont want to see white every night period on either team

Wearing white on the road has never made sense. Your colors are your flag...you carry it into the building. Instead every home game looks the same. You in your colors and a boring white opponent. Every opponent. Every single opponent. In white. Every night. Bruins are here...in white. Leafs are here...in white. So stupid.

Fly your flag into the building and season ticket holders get to see different looks and classic colors repped.

You see to me you've got it backwards. To me because your colors are your identity it's your right to wear it at home, in front of your own fans. The road team should get 2nd choice, the whatever jerseys.

Really stupid how Winnipeg fans whiteout the building, and the team wears blue.

Setting aside the issue of colorblindness, I would prefer to go to a soccer-style setup, where teams designate primary/secondary/tertiary jerseys instead of home/road/alternate. Both teams wear their primary, unless there will be a clash. However, to minimize the difficulty for equipment managers, have the rule be that if there is a clash, the home team will switch to their secondary jersey. That way, again the road team only needs to bring one set, and the home fans get to see their team's other jerseys every once in a while.

Growing up in the 90s, there were times when the teams switched their jerseys around. It looked way better with the dark jerseys on home ice and I was hoping the league would have switched it way sooner. White is dull for the home team. My grandpa and others never got used to the white jerseys being the home jersey.

It would be pretty cool if a few teams pulled a Cowboys and were simply known for wearing whites at home.

no realistic during regular season games with teams not hauling two complete sets of uniforms on the road for a multi game road trip.

the capitals have worn white at home with montreal in recent years when montreal came on a one game trip.

I prefer to see the home team wear white and see the visiting colors, but as a caps fan that would junk the caps rock the red which sets them apart from other teams now.

Maybe designate that one team wears dark helmets and the other white?

I'm curious what sort of consideration soccer leagues give to this, they seem to be okay with having both teams wear colors...

Green is a fairly uncommon club colour, and most clubs that use it do it along with another colour in a striped or hooped pattern. Clubs usually wear shorts and socks in a different colour as well, so should a club with a plain red shirt meet a club with a plain green shirt a colour blind person would be able to tell the difference based on the shorts and the socks.

... um yeah, this ^^^^. It looked like the fans were Ducks fans.

You'd think management could have tried to start a new tradition...? Glad I don't have to see that anymore this year.

But basically, how/why is a home jersey color thread in the business forum?

Thats a very good question Butch..... Far more appropriate place is here in NHL General Chat. ;)

pretty sure Winnipeg swiftly lost those two at home cause all their fans were supporting the Ducks [why else would they all be wearing the Duck's colors?!?]
had to be pretty demoralizing to the players...

I would love it for the nostalgia. Then 10 years later i'd wanna switch again for the nostalgia. Either way doesn't really matter IMO...

I love the C of red stuff. They wore white when it started.

And the home team wore white when the Whiteout tradition started.

Carry on ... the whiteout will not go away here.

Best idea I've heard is switching it up at the All Star Break. Both mindsets make sense and this makes everyone happy. Even swapping out month-to-month is good.

For the playoffs, let the home team decide, but the decision has to carry for consecutive games in the same building (ie. the home team can't wear one set for game 1 and the other for game 2, likewise for games 3/4).

Here's a crazy idea: Every team gets to choose the colors of their jerseys! meaning, if they don't want to have white jerseys then they don't need to!

Nashville's home color is yellow (or gold or whatever) and their away jerseys are dark blue cause dark blue is the teams secondary color.

Blackhawks wear red at home and black when visiting.

Winnipeg wears white at home (or vomit green or whatever they want) and dark blue when visiting.

and so on...

Yeah, I understand this would make things much more complicated. I totally get it why they have the "white jersey" rule but wouldn't it be sweet if the teams got to decide themselves the colors of their jerseys?

No?

You guys are so lame.

No. Both teams wearing colours is just ridiculous. I remember they did that for the all star game one time in the 90's my poor old grandpa couldn't even tell which team was which. Bring back whites at home.

Is it even an option available to teams? If not, I'd like it if it were. I think it'd kinda mix things up a bit. That said, I absolutely hate the idea of HAVING to wear white at home. I hate it that the NBA does it, and I would loathe if the NHL did it. Maybe it's just me, but I think team colors at home is simply right.

No. I want to see my team wearing our colors at home. The Rangers are the blushirts. Why shouldn't they be wearing blue? Calgary's sea of red should be just that...red. Besides, if we're all into the tradition and heritage of the sport, home colors is the way to go.

Sorry if you were born in the 60's, 70's and 80's chances are you grewup with your home team wearing white. This is what seemed normal to you.

I remember seeing old clips and pictures of games (pre-1971) where the fans of the team in dark colors were cheering when they had scored?? :amazed: I thought what the ****? How come there are so many visiting team fans on the road? Wasn't til my Dad told me the deal.

I vote to go back to white. The Sens could wear their 3rd whites as the new home jersey which would rock!!

Anyway, love the idea od the home team chosing the jersey! I don't want to see 24 variations of white for every sinlge bloody home game. I already know what my fav teams dark jersey looks like? So why not see a variety of dark colors?

White is super kool and the way it should be!!

No way, I love teams wearing their colours at home. Flyers are known for being Orange, why would I want to see them in white at home? I know we all have different opinions but it boggles my mind why people would want their team to wear white at home, it's so...boring.

Ideally it should be home teams choice.

This is the best home jersey.

The first thing I remember thinking to myself when the Leafs and Red Wings Winter Classic jerseys were reviled, I was surprised that the Leafs one was not more white since they were the visiting team.

It makes sense because with white at home, most teams couldn't wear alternates at home.
