Value of: Which teams are willing to give Mitch Marner $13M, 7 years?

I will start with the Rangers, who else?
A lot of money for small player. Playoffs usually hockey a lot tougher sport, as refs keep whistle in their pockets. Hard to win that much money tied up on small player. Has to be big team.

He’s a great player you hate to lose but definitely walk away from for 13 mill between ages 28-35. He’s a winger who values himself differently than every other winger and I just don’t think that makes any team better. I think Taylor Hall is a very loose comparison of a guy who simply just didn’t value himself appropriately and ended up finding out the hard way. Skipping over him worked. Not to say Marner isn’t better overall, but Hall was a recent Hart winner when he went to UFA

Utah or Calgary...

Calgary if he takes the highest offer, Utah if he learns from his Toronto experience and avoids a hockey market.

Blue Jackets seem like the type of team who'd try for it.

Very unlikely.

They've got a great group of forwards coming together right now, including elite playmaking and scoring skill. KJ can do a lot of the same stuff. Marner introduces risk into the room as far as the chemistry goes, and also a lot of long term risk with the contracts. They'd probably do better to avoid a Tavares type contract that crowds out home grown talent.

No thanks. Not for that kind of money. But I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t want to come here anyway.

The leafs will sign him. Watch.
Honestly, Leafs re-signing him makes the most sense, I just can't see them letting him walk for nothing. Probably right that he wouldn't sign here. No one wanted to last year.

I could definitely see him in Detroit, possibly Columbus or Calgary. Buffalo would be a sneaky fit… trade some of that high end youth they’ve been stockpiling, like Peterka, Quinn, Cozens, Byram, Power to address other needs and bring in an established elite player - instead of 1 or 2 of the potentially elite players - to play with Tage and Dahlin. Washington is an interesting fit. I could see Colorado being interesting if Rantanen leaves. Marner and Mackinnon could be lethal too. Vegas always seems to be in on these. Seattle would be interesting as he would be the main attraction there.

The best thing that has happened to him is Matthews being injured as he's had to shoot. The games where he's played with Matthews vs the games where Matthews has been injured this season shows how ridiculous that partnership is and how they shouldn't play together.

October
11 games played together, Marner was 1+11.

November
3 games played together, Marner 1+3.
9 games without Matthews, Marner 7+8.

December
12 games played together, Marner 1+12.
3 games without Matthews, Marner 3+2.

With Matthews 3+26 in 23 games.
Without Matthews 10+10 in 12 games.

Pretty much any team that can afford $13m would be interested.
