Value of: Which teams are willing to give $13M, 7 years to Mitch Marner this summer?

If Marner leaves the Leafs (that I am doubtful on but lets say he does)... He's going to pick a team that has a very good center for him to work with. That part I am sure of.
Just don't see many teams with very good established centers having the cap space for him.

They're also going to demand $12.5M+/year when Yzerman has already set an internal cap with Larkin so much that he hacked a year off Seider to keep him below it...

Nevermind that Marner doesn't scream "Yzerman player", that, again, Yzerman has never chased the big name UFA as a GM, and that Detroit already has a solid future with wingers, which they can't say about centers or LHD.

What are some examples of big name players that yzerman hasn't chased? And how do you know he didn't court them (as opposed to those players not wanting to sign in Detroit)?

Depends on what the salary cap is next year. I'm hearing it's estimated at $92.5M right now but there were some talk about a $95M cap. That's a huge bump. It's either another $4.5M or $7M increase for every single team. If it's the later, more teams can fit him in.

However, I don't see Marner leaving the Leafs.

People are really basing his lack of playoff ability on a single series from last season's playoffs. He had 14 points in 11 games the year before.

Nylander, Matthews, and Tavares were also below a ppg last playoffs, with Tavares having 2 points in seven games. Matthews was injured and Boston shut the whole team down offensively. Marner became the scapegoat.
You’re kidding. Marners been a joke every single series except debatably one. This guy is an overpaid locker room cancer and a perennial choker. Softer than the tissue I use to wipe my ass. He is not built for the big moments where physicality matters.

You are asking for proof of things that didn’t happen? What a weird question to ask someone.

So your logic is "because Yzerman hasnt signed a big ticket player he doesn't want those players"

Completely dismissing the fact that those guys havent been available in UFA to begin with.

My logic is I don't expect Yzerman to suddenly do something he's never done in 15 years of GMing...

Maybe he needs to drill home the "Build through the draft" speech for the 1,001st time, though.

Yes I’m in the vast majority, that leafs overpay their players, hopefully they keep on doing it.
Don’t know why that corrected to the opposite of what I typed but I meant minority.

I guess we disagree. Seems crazy to think you would value a single season over 8.

You're jumping into a convo without context. It was ascertained that "yzerman doesn't chase these types of guys" but these types of guys haven't been available as UFAs.

There's never been elite wingers in UFA?

Really...

The context of this conversation is yzerman's tenure as gm of the red wings not "ever"

During Yzerman's tenure with the Red Wings there has been Gaudreau and.... who else?

So to point to the fact that yzerman hasn't signed a player like that (when there was only 1 and as far as we know Johnny could have turned down a deal in Detroit) is a false equivalency.

Just in the last five years, Panarin and Gaudreau immediately jump to mind. Do we really need to go further in depth over Yzerman's career just to prove this is 100% grade A bullshit?
Panarin was going to one team only.
Sorry didn’t realize a question was going to set you off.

The context of this conversation is not Yzerman's tenure as a Red Wings GM, it's Yzerman's tenure as a GM period.

And you can go all the way back to my initial responses to you to find that context...

Not sure why you'd have to think that given that Yzerman has never chased a top dollar UFA and Detroit's cap would be far better spent on a T6 center or T4 defender.
They're also going to demand $12.5M+/year when Yzerman has already set an internal cap with Larkin so much that he hacked a year off Seider to keep him below it...

Sorry, didn't realize that being proven wrong was gonna have you retreating to "Umad".

Bud, you telegraph being proven wrong every time you drop a laughing response and either trail off topic or don't reply at all.

Kinda like that time I asked you to talk about Ottawa's drafting over the last five years, outside 2020, and you refused to. :thumbu:

... Kinda like you don't wanna talk about Gaudreau now. :dunno:

I did as well as others did, and proved with facts, on 5 years of drafting, and points, but you just moved the goalposts and didn’t like that you were proven wrong, initially,

so I stopped replying, once it became obvious, all you were going to do was keep moving the goalpost each time, until you eventually get one point right.

You move goalposts endlessly on discussions, and has become a schtik now, so sorry not interested in disengenious hyperbole. See ya.
