Canes for sure with all the big UFA contracts they have coming off the books....Orlov Burns Andersson but they probably prefer Rantanen.....Stars for sure with Benn contract coming off the books.

Yzerman doesn't have a year to wait. He does this in a heartbeat, it likely takes Detroit into playoff territory and that's enough for him.

Yes, Yzerman definitely feels the heat. That's why he signed a bunch of 1 and 2 year contracts to plugs this offseason. :sarcasm:

If any of the big pending FA'S don't re-sign with their teams, you have to think Verbeek will make a push for one. That includes Marner. Ducks forwards are currently:
Killorn Carlsson Leason
Gauthier McTavish Fabbri
Vatrano Strome Terry

Zegras will take Leason's spot when he's back, but Vatrano and Fabbri are FA after the season. If Ducks can land one of the big FA (Rantanen or Marner) and move Fabbri and Vatrano, that looks a lot better.

Zegras Carlsson FA
Gauthier McTavish Colangelo
Killorn Strome Terry

Also gives Sennecke proper time to develop then Ducks can decide who to move in 3 or 4 years if necessary. Cap shouldn't be an issue, none of the kids have proven anything (outside of Terry who has a long term contract), and Strome, Killorn, and Gibson fall off in the next few years along with Gudas, Trouba, and the retention on Fowler.

Again, his contract value will be determined by his playoffs. He's been godly every regular season, the way he's playing this year is very different under Berube so it looks optimistic. But given his playoff struggles, we should not be discussing value right now.

To his credit, he's playing a physical, competitive game. Not shying from contact, actually initiating contact and scrums (so weird to see) So I think he'll have a decent playoff, lets see.

Screams Carolina. Columbus will make a legit run too but I dont know if Marner would be willing to go there but I know they will try

He's got 50 points in 57 playoff games. Not quite as good as his regular season stats, but hardly a bust. I think any of the big cap space teams could do a lot worse than signing Marner.
Looking at stats from above like that can be really misleading. He seemed to score in bunches but then disappear when a star player was needed. Also way too easy to turn him into a perimeter player. Maybe Berube changes that team-wide. Keefe seemed to know it was a problem, but couldn't get it to change.

I know some people in Anaheim. They really wanted to go after Drai and made a few offers to the Oilers.

I could see them go hard after Marner.

For me Marner is kind of like a Skinner type in that he is a very very good player with good flash and scoring...But will never be the driving force behind a team being a winner. For that you shouldn't blow 13M of your cap.

Putting aside the fact that Marner has been a better producer, he’s not a Skinner type because Skinner is bad defensively.

All i can say is i believe if he does test the market at least 1 team will offer him 13 mil for 7. You probably see a few teams highly consider it.

I don’t really want him but the Sharks have the space and his other parents, Marleau and Thornton, live here and work with the team.

Don’t think he’s a Mike Grier kind of player though.

Jeff Skinner? Marner has been playing at a 101 point pace since 18-19. Skinner has one ppg season in his career. Marner has to do better in the playoffs but they're two completely different caliber players.

I could defintely see MG go after a big fish like him. Especially if he trys to mimic how the Rangers went from 1OA to presidents trophy in a short time. He could see Marner as the Panarin type piece to drive scoring.

You should do a breakdown of his ppg per game (1 through 7) and you'll see why his playoff performance is constantly brought up.

I've never seen a star player get so underrated in this thread, guy gets shit on even amongst leaf fans. Very rarely you can find a player who can be one of a team's best in all situations. He ain't making 13 Million I don't think, but I'm sure some teams who can afford it and what to improve their top 6 will shill out the money within seconds of July 1st. At least you would be overpaying a good player.

13M x 7yrs would be 91M total.

To match that total, Toronto would have to pay 11,375M x 8yrs.

Safe to say that IF he does not re-sign, he will be getting more than 13M annually from somewhere else. The 8th year is the kicker here. If you give the 8th year some value, let's say 8M, Toronto would sign Marner for 12,375M in that case.

It's very likely that he isn't going anywhere. Same with Rantanen. Of course if he wants to go then it's not going to he about money.

Blue Jackets, Islanders, Utah.. just a few teams who should/would look at signing Marner for the amount provided by OP.
