Speculation: Which teams are going to be sellers, and who/what it is on the market right now?

Isles (If Lou doesn't get in the way)

C-Brock Nelson
C/RW- Kyle Palmieri
C-Casey Cizikas
C-JG Pageau
LW-Anders Lee
LW-Pierre Engvall - Please :)
RD-Scott Mayfield
LD-Adam Pelech
G-Semyon Varlamov
Mayfield is interesting. What would you trade him for ?

The Penguins will probably, but not definitely, trade Marcus Pettersson away.
We may also add, either with the Pettersson trade or in a separate trade.

Oil fan that would be all over acquiring Pettersson. What would the price be?

We don’t have a first this year, but the Blues 2nd will be in the 40-45 range.

Does Beau Akey + STL 2nd + STL 3rd do it?

Or 2026 1st + STL 3rd?

Blackhawks are going to be sellers:
  • Taylor Hall
  • Connor Murphy
  • Ryan Donato
  • Alec Martinez
  • Pat Maroon
  • Craig Smith
  • Seth Jones- if he waives NTC and they eat part of his contract
I also think they will be buyers in terms of taking on contracts or being a 3rd team in trade in order to gain more picks. Its been Kyle Davidson MO for past 2 seasons.
Murphy would be of interest. Maroon as well if we didn't already have another slow as molasses player on our 4th line in Perry.
East is crazy, nobody is out of it yet. Montreal looked dead, now they’re surging. Rangers had it locked up, then collapsed. Sharks, Hawks, Nashville and probably Seattle look like the only definite sellers. I’d imagine the Islanders sell as they have the best free agent asset in Nelson (I expect narrowing edging out Granlund).

Hoping Columbus keeps Provorov to drive up the price of Ceci as the top UFA RHD.

Sharks will sell, but they are said to want to retain Granlund, Ceci, and Kunin for their leadership and ability to insulate the young guys. All three would be difficult to upgrade in free agency as there aren’t many top 6 Cs or RHd available. Same goes for physical forwards who can play 3rd line.

Sturm, Koistin, and Rutta won’t cost much, but will cost very little. If anyone wants Georgiev or Vanecek as a 2/3 G, they will be available.
Has Kostin rebounded from his slow start? How good is Vanecek and what would the ask for him be?

Kostin is the normal inconsistent player he’s always been but dealing with a minor injury currently. I’d take anything that isn’t a goalie for Vanecek.

Ottawa if they remain in the thick of things are probably going to try and trade for a forward, no one of significant value (ie a 3rd+a meh prospect or a 2nd if its someone with term/good contract). Just depends on the level of players on the market. Sens cant pay up too much considering vegas will whine again and dorion butchered the sens prospect pool as a whole

at the same time sens that are probably available for trade
forsberg
cousins (if the sens fall out of the playoff race)
gregor (will definitely be available if the sens trade for another forward, will probably be available even if the sens dont trade for another forward as Green likes gaudette more and sens have had other guys come up and play more physical in that 12/13 forward role)

I’d predict stl will ultimately be a seller, even tho they may buy too, with the following dudes up for grabsies.

Stl is at 47/50 contracts (-1 for Snuggerud). Historically we’ve kept 2 open so it’s maybe player in player out.
Stl has high $ bonuses from Suter so it’s 3 mil in cap space is maybe not 3 mil in cap space.
Stl has all its retention slots.

I think likely one of these two move to create depth chart space at deadline or offseason:

Saad - 1 year addl term at 4.5
Toropchenko - 1 year addl term at 1.5

Pure rentals:

Faksa - pending ufa at 3.25
Suter - pending ufa on 35+ bonus deal. (I think we need him and I’m not sure any contender would want?)

Reclamation projects:

Perunovich - pending rfa, currently at 1.15

That list is quite short, there’s very few untouchables on the team, wouldn’t be surprised to see deals outside of this list, but hard to guess.

I think stl would add a controlled player at anytime a deal could be found. Stl will have to undergo major surgery on its defense the upcoming 2-3 years and will have a glut of forward prospects, so if that deal exists between now and the deadline that works on that stuff then the deal may look like a stl buy.

In my fantasy world, Flyers sell on Laughton, Ristolainen, Hathaway and see if they can find someone to take on Couturier's contract. But Flyers will continue to be the Flyers and hold out hope they can eek into the playoffs, even though they're near the bottom of the league.

Actually, the best thing that could happen is if the Flyers just sell....... to a new owner.

I'd like to see them trade Frost, but that's more for him. I'd like to see how he does on a better run team.

Well, the comparable trade from the Canucks would be Sawyer Mynio, a 2nd, and Hoglander. Hoglander is worth a 3rd right now, so the value of your deal seems fair, provided that Akey is approximately as good a prospect as Mynio.

With that said, I think we would want a young NHLer back as part of the deal, so while yours is a fair value deal, it's probably not the one we would choose given the list of potential options. The 2026 1st deal might be the one we would choose here, simply because it's a higher-value pick.

Ducks will probably move Dumoulin and Fabbri, sounds like Gibson is available but not cheap. That said, Ducks will not pass up an opportunity to add another offensive forward. Carlsson has had a revolving door of 3rd and 4th liners on his wings.
WPG should be all over Dumoulin…be a great add on the bottom pair.
What’s the ask for Dumoulin 50% retained

What do you think the cost for Frost & Risto would be for the Jets to acquire? Would Phi retain on Risto?

What about Savoie straight up?

I’m sure I’ll get roasted by a number of fellow Oilers fans because they like the way he’s trending and we’ll need cheap options (still has 2yrs ELC after this year) once Drai’s deal kicks in next year, but I think that can be achieved other ways (30+ players who’ve never won a cup signing bargain deals). I know people will point at the Skinner deal and ask “how did that work out?” That signing didn’t make sense from the moment it happened though (highly talented offence first player who is below average skater and has never played a playoff game).

The prefered cost would still be Akey + 2nd, but I think Pettersson is the perfect add to shore up our D, so I certainly hope the Oilers will do what it takes to land him.

This is the toronto way, signing over the hill 30+ players based on the name on their jersey over their play on the ice, I'd strongly suggest not following in their footsteps

I think Habs will be both buyers and sellers at the deadline, provided they are still in the mix.Or be very quiet by considering their expiring vets as their deadline acquisitions if nobody is ready to pay enough for them.

They will let expiring veterans go if the price is right only. And could use these assets to make hockey deals or use later picks they have to replace them with less costly short term options.

Like trading Savard and a forward like Armia or perhaps even Evans for a higher pick each to contenders and spending a low pick to get a player who is still a NHLer but is a poorer version of the traded guys. A Faksa for instance. Then spend the true draft capital on hockey trades now or at the draft.

Gotta wait a month for more teams to fall out of the race. It's really only Chicago, San Jose and Nashville that are out right now. Buffalo is probably out too but only those first 2 are genuine sellers.

...disagree about Buffalo; they gotta start selling now, imo...EVERYTHING not named Dahlin (and maybe Power) should be on the table; that dumpster fire has already been burning half a decade too long...

Leafs don't have much available

Holmberg
Timmins
Jarnkrok
Robertson
Bennning

Off chance Hildeby but not for a rental.

Isles should try and move Nelson, Palmieri, and Cizikas for sure by TDL.

Other candidates include Pageau, Mayfield, Pelech, and a small chance at Varlamov should he want to Cup Chase.
