Which teams are bound for mediocrity over the next 5-6 years?

It’s cyclical, no use restricting it to mid teams.
teams that have been good for 5-6, will probably decline in 5-6 years.

LOL get more creative and less obvious

As a Caps fan .. all the direct and peripheral hate is amusing on here.

Anyways ...

5-6 years is basically impossible to project imo.

This thread is more about teams that are mid right now that will continue to be mid; no cycle, only mid.

Islanders could be there as well but their cap situation isn't as boring. Nashville could potentially be there.

edit: to the guy claiming this is Caps bashing, I have nothing against the Caps. I have just observed that your team looks like it will be mid for the foreseeable future

If Anaheim doesn’t get their act together with coaching an inconsistencies - they might be there
Not a Ducks fan - but disagree on them being included. They've got enough talent in the pipeline right now to be a hell of a lot better than a mediocre team. Obviously, they could flame out and turn in West coast version of the Sabres, but I think the talent is there to get past the mediocre stage.

My guess would be the Jets and the Islander. Both teams have good goaltending and enough talent locked up long term that they won't bottom out, but not enough talent to be more than a 1st round speedbump in a good year. Jets also trying to be as competitive as possible for attendance reasons, and assume the Isle would be in a similar boat with a new arena.

Impossible to predict.

6 years ago, every team that was in the final four this year missed the playoffs, and half of the division winners of that year missed the playoffs this year.

If I had to guess, Pittsburgh post Crosby-Geno will be bad for a while?

Minnesota because it seems like they're stuck in perpetual mediocrity (not intended as a slight against them, I am rooting for them)

Boldy, Rossi and Faber look awesome, but I expect another 6 seasons of 40-ish wins and 1st round exits because the franchise/state of Minnesota is obviously cursed.

I don't think anyone is quite bound, but some are close to the ledge.

My favorte team for example, could miss the playoffs and find themselves in a position where they have to trade their captain and have their #1 goalie walk. Then again, they could make it, sign Ullmark long-term, and keep Brady happy. There's just oo many variables to answer something like this accurately, without luck being a major factor.

Caps fans are bullish on the future. I think our better days are a couple years away, but we should still compete for a playoff spot in the near term.
