Not reading all that, I’m happy for you tho, or sorry that happened.Depends on what you think the objective for these teams are.
They are both owned and managed by the same Rogers media empire that doesn't care about winning, doesn't care about the fans, and doesn't care about anything but making as much money as possible off the hard working blue collar fan that has an emotional investment in their hometown teams.
THE TIES THAT BIND: TED ROGERS, LARRY TANENBAUM, AND THE TORONTO SPORT ELITE
(Russell Field, University of Toronto)
Corporate sport-media entities such as MLSE and RBJ have argued that “…to a large extent, profits or losses don't matter. As investments, sports franchises are asset plays”
the generation of marketable content for converged print-radio-television online media conglomerates has become of preeminent importance.
Content is content.
Let's get one thing clear right now: Rogers & Bell don't care about the Leafs, the Jays, the Canadiens, or any other team they own. They're only interested in the success of their own brand. They are soulless and faceless corporate conglomerates who don't care for anything beyond what these teams add to their own fat profit margins.
Whether those teams win or lose is of no concern to them so long as eyeballs remain on screens.
The result of which is a lack of urgency to put out a winning product. Neither team is considered a true contender. Because the objective isn't to build a winning team.
It's to make money.
In which case they can only be considered a huge success in that regards.
It isn't the same ownership technically.Equal, same ownership and same results.
Well said. It starts at ownership. Corporate giants rogers and bell don’t care. Shanahan and atkins have botched their respective teams beyond repair. And it’s heavily speculated that atkins was behind the plan of pulling Berrios early and the decision was likely made the previous night. If that’s the case that is deeply concerning and certainly worthy of jays fans boycotting until atkins is fired or steps down.Depends on what you think the objective for these teams are.

Both teams suck when it matters the most !!! Both teams are atrocious at competing when a prize is on the line.Neither team sucks. Teams that suck finish near the bottom of the standings. They certainly haven't delivered championships though.

Honorable mention to Marner flipping it over the glass against MTL when he had plenty of time and space to do something less stupid. Marner not showing up for game 3 against Florida is the worst thing I ever remember seeing though I suppose that's more of a mental "failure" than a mental "error".Base running comedy is not how you would describe the Leafs' issues even if it is a different sport.
Vladimir Guerro Jr. will go down in TOR Sports history as the worst mental error by a professional this city has seen.
Sadly you could almost predict that he was going to do that.
Not only that, but which team is trending to have a better season and has better young players in their system. The Leafs have Knies, Cowan, Minten. The Jays have uhhhhh Manoah? Orelvis? Barger? Maybe Tiedemann. That team had Moreno but their inept management traded him for a bag of baseballs, errrr, Varsho.Despite the past disappointments, at least the Leafs have pushed every playoff series (except Washington and Florida) to the limit and finally broke through to the second round last season.
On the other hand, the current core of the Jays has yet to win a single playoff game.
