Depends on what you think the objective for these teams are.

They are both owned and managed by the same Rogers media empire that doesn't care about winning, doesn't care about the fans, and doesn't care about anything but making as much money as possible off the hard working blue collar fan that has an emotional investment in their hometown teams.

THE TIES THAT BIND: TED ROGERS, LARRY TANENBAUM, AND THE TORONTO SPORT ELITE
(Russell Field, University of Toronto)

Corporate sport-media entities such as MLSE and RBJ have argued that “…to a large extent, profits or losses don't matter. As investments, sports franchises are asset plays”

the generation of marketable content for converged print-radio-television online media conglomerates has become of preeminent importance.

Content is content.

Let's get one thing clear right now: Rogers & Bell don't care about the Leafs, the Jays, the Canadiens, or any other team they own. They're only interested in the success of their own brand. They are soulless and faceless corporate conglomerates who don't care for anything beyond what these teams add to their own fat profit margins.

Whether those teams win or lose is of no concern to them so long as eyeballs remain on screens.

The result of which is a lack of urgency to put out a winning product. Neither team is considered a true contender. Because the objective isn't to build a winning team.

It's to make money.

In which case they can only be considered a huge success in that regards.

Not reading all that, I’m happy for you tho, or sorry that happened.

Neither team sucks. Teams that suck finish near the bottom of the standings. They certainly haven't delivered championships though.

I voted equally. Both teams have these supposed stars and they just choke when it’s important

Well said. It starts at ownership. Corporate giants rogers and bell don’t care. Shanahan and atkins have botched their respective teams beyond repair. And it’s heavily speculated that atkins was behind the plan of pulling Berrios early and the decision was likely made the previous night. If that’s the case that is deeply concerning and certainly worthy of jays fans boycotting until atkins is fired or steps down.

I vehemently protest this thread based on a number of incredibly relevant facts:
-poor grammar in the thread title
-being subjected to sports tickers which place a Canadian flag before the name of the 400 pound first baseman who speaks English but pretends he doesn't
-hockey does not suck
-baseball sucks

I don’t get why people think that Jays are ran so badly? Do you want to go back to the JP Ricciardi days or something? And Leafs are not run poorly, per se, I just don’t agree with some of their decisions personally. Things can certainly be a lot worse. Both are playoff teams, and have lots of talent. It’s just difficult to get it “right”. Anyway, we as fans are spoiled lately. Used to be when both teams roally sucked and couldn’t even sniff the playoffs. Now they are both bona fide playoff teams, just takes time sometimes for everything to come together and get over that hump.

Base running comedy is not how you would describe the Leafs' issues even if it is a different sport.

Vladimir Guerro Jr. will go down in TOR Sports history as the worst mental error by a professional this city has seen.

Sadly you could almost predict that he was going to do that.

They make more money if the teams win more.

Honorable mention to Marner flipping it over the glass against MTL when he had plenty of time and space to do something less stupid. Marner not showing up for game 3 against Florida is the worst thing I ever remember seeing though I suppose that's more of a mental "failure" than a mental "error".

Oh yeah, I vote Raptors. I know it's not a poll option but f*** it, I never vote in polls anyway so what do I care.

Someday these Leaf "fans" will understand what poor management looks like if they are still around when the team is losing. Trust me, this is not poor management. Not winning does not mean poor management.

They both equally suck. But my God. Schneider's f*** up yesterday by pulling Berrios was quite a sight to behold. I don't think Sheldon has f***** up that royally before.

The idea that corporations don’t want to win is one of the bigger head scratchers in Toronto sports lore.

Yes, corporations do want to win and maximize revenues on the way to glory. Do they know how to win or press the right buttons all the time? No they don’t. But in this case the profit motive and the winning motive are 100% aligned and odd to think otherwise.

Despite the past disappointments, at least the Leafs have pushed every playoff series (except Washington and Florida) to the limit and finally broke through to the second round last season.

On the other hand, the current core of the Jays has yet to win a single playoff game.

I will never understand the people that say they don't care about winning.
Even if ownership is strictly about money, winning is good for business, as much money as they make, they'd make more money if they won.

If you care about money, you care about winning because winning = more money.

It's not a hard concept.

Not only that, but which team is trending to have a better season and has better young players in their system. The Leafs have Knies, Cowan, Minten. The Jays have uhhhhh Manoah? Orelvis? Barger? Maybe Tiedemann. That team had Moreno but their inept management traded him for a bag of baseballs, errrr, Varsho.

I'd go with the Jays at the moment. A playoff berth is more difficult to attain in MLB but the Leafs at least have shown the ability to win games, and even a round, on the grander stage.
