Sens as that 29 unprotected pick will look very good as the cats age and have no replacements.

6'4" power foward are one of the rarest commodity, and in the end, Tkachuck still a 60ish points player IMO
And that's on a mid Ottawa team.

It's possible that Ottawa hit the jackpot on one of those firsts (both Lane and Cole got picked in the 2nd round after all) but it's not looking good for next season

Value in a vacuum: Ottawa

But it makes sense for Florida from a "win now" perspective as well. If Brady helps them win another Cup or two, I don't think the Panthers will be complaining.

I find Brady Tkachuk kind of overrated on this site.

He's a tremendous player that I'd take on my team, but some talk about him like he's prime Cam Neely or something. Hilariously, he beat Marner in a poll last year (obviously, he would get absolutely destroyed in a poll against him now).

As I said in the thread about the trade, the idea of a first round pick that is outside of the top ten can be more valuable than the player the pick is used on. I don't think it's bad value for OTT at all (considering the circumstances) in a vacuum. It could be great (imagine if they hit on one of the late picks and draft a good first liner or legit top pair defenseman ninth overall) or package two of the picks to get a good first liner and also get another solid player or two with the remaining picks. It may be a disaster (maybe they'll draft a couple of busts and move the other picks for underwhelming returns). We won't find out who wins for years.

I hate that FLA is going to be that much more aggravating and harder to play against, though I'm not sure they needed another good winger. I wonder how they're going to get a goalie.

People saying OTT got good value here don't know puck. The only A-grade asset is the 9th, and I don't even really like the guys that will be available at 9. The other pieces are all B-grade assets. The 2029 picks are absolutely useless to a team that needs to be making the playoffs right now.

Meanwhile the Panthers added another high-end core player to use for a Cup run.
