I think Marchand has shown that his days of playing best on best are over.

He and Stone both looked too slow out there.

Yeah Marchand was a step behind out there but man the pace of play between those two teams was lightning fast. Little to no room on the ice for even the fastest players in the league like McDavid and MacKinnon.

Just top tier hockey on both sides of the puck.

Don’t get me wrong, Marchand can still play.

But at this level, it looked like he was struggling a bit.

Cale Makar has got to be one of the best all around defensemen I've ever watched in my entire life. Top 5 player in the entire league IMO. His next contract should be massive.

All Team USA defenseman and their value just went through the roof

I've always been a fan of Slavin. Faber and Sanderson are going to be studs out there too.

Must admit I was a Faber skeptic -- not that I thought he was bad but that it was a little premature to put him in even top 10 D in the league conversations. He was fantastic. Fox on the other hand looked like a complete bum and I think misses the Olympics if everyone's healthy.

I don't think Matthews was as invisible in the first three games as the consensus but ultimately he's a goal scorer and choked away a bunch of massive opportunities to score a winner. Deserves the criticism.

Kyle Connor was invisible in that final game that Canada 🇨🇦 won between Canada and USA.

Invisible because he got the healthy scratch……

He had a bad tourny and dropped his stock / much like playoff success with the Jets when games get to that elite level where you really have to fight to get your scoring opportunities.

31 goals so far this regular season ( many of them highlight reel) for the 1 st place Winnipeg Jets.

Morrissey on the other hand was the $$$…. Cool and collected and one of Canadas best puck moving all around defenders…. That can jump up into the play and create offense.

Just below Makar offensively but with better defence. He really controlled the pace and settled things down defensively.

Hellybuck was also $$$ in the bank for team USA…. And could not be faulted on OT goal when the best player in the world is left alone in the slot with time to pick his spot.

Raised:

Slavin, Larkin, Marner, Brady Tkatchuk, Binnington, Harley.

Not sure I believe a 4 game sample on a thrown-together team is going to do much to hurt anyone.

Anyone who is criticizing Matthews for not scoring has not been paying attention this season.

Hes been playing injured, missed time due to injury, flew to Germany to deal with his injury, etc. The guy hasn’t been able to shoot the puck properly all season and was on a 6 game goalless streak heading in to the tourney (which I believe is the longest of his career).

Playing solid defensively, getting his chances, 2 primary assists in the finals and the most dangerous player in OT.

But yes he blew his coverage on McDavid, that’ll sour every fair weather fan here.

Slavin and Werenski were the best players for the US. Werenski is definitely in the upper echelon of defensemen, maybe only behind Makar and Hughes. Wish we got to see Hughes play. He was alright in the playoffs and could use the big game spotlight.

Hellebucyk proved he's elite in high pressure games.

Jack Hughes was then worst player on the ice for USA. Not just invisible but noticeably bad - unwilling to battle along the boards, lost on his coverages, bailing out of 50/50 battles, turnovers.

It was so bad.

Werenski is also who the mainstream media wants you to believe that Adam Fox is. And if he didn’t have 2 season ending injuries recently I think it’s not even a debate

Slavin was so good for the US. Seemed like he made the right play every time he was on the ice.

Hughes was invisible. Fox too.

I don't know if they raised their stock or not but Sanheim and Harley were pleasant surprises for me. They both played well.
Unfortunately for Hughes, he wasn’t invisible, in my opinion he stuck out like a sore thumb, looked horrible is several instances

Even as a die hard bruins fan I was really expecting Matthews to be that guy for USA. He simply just wasn't the skill guy they needed. Maybe playing with two grinders didn't play to his strengths?

Im just doing US... I will just say however that I don't think any player from any team looked dominant in this tournament except Slavin defensively.

Raised Stock-

Slavin
Eichel
Brady Tkachuk
McAvoy
Werenski
Larkin
Guenzentle (or however the hell you spell it).
Faber

No change or Incomplete

Matthew Tkachuk
Jake Sanderson
Noah Hanifin
Matthew Boldy
Helly
Otter

Lowered Stock

Brock Nelson
Jack Hughes
Chris Kreider
Adam Fox
Trochek
Kyle Connor
Auston Matthews
JT Miller

Eichel and Matthew Tkachuk have won cups and have proven themselves in big games.

Matthews is the league’s “premiere goalscorer” who can’t seem to score when the moment gets big. This was just another missed opportunity for him.

If he had scored in OT the narrative would have changed. I would’ve listed him next to Marner. But he didn’t.

No if Matthews scored you would have Marner in the disappointment. This tournament was perfect for Leaf haters because no matter the result, you would be able to hate on one of them.

Matthews was the best player for USA tonight and Marner was best for Canada.

He was by far their best player tonight… what are you even talking about

nevermind watching the games, they don't even bother checking the score board I think at this point. People have a narrative and that is all it is.

Eichel or Tkachuk was best forward.

Matthews played his best game last night and I would put him in good category but the best goal scorer in the game has to bury his opportunities.

Honestly, he's never impressed me. For a Norris Winner, the guy is invisible out there. There are people who put him in the same company as Makar and Hughes and I think that's absolutely ridiculous.
Fox was invisible most of the tournament and bad in the final, partially responsible for Canada’s game tying and game winning goals.

He’s definitely regressed in the last year plus somewhat due to his knee injury impacting his mobility. Before that you could make the argument he was in the same tier as Makar and Hughes, but with the way he’s playing now, he’s probably not in the top 5, maybe even top 10 dmen, in the league.

Of guys who play on teams who I don’t watch a ton, Slavin/Larkin/Brady T were genuinely impressive and look like key cogs on any championship team.

Jack Hughes…the opposite.

Like I said, had he done that then we're in the Marner thread right now hearing how he is a choke artist. No winning on the HF mains.

If we learned nothing...

Go HIGH on Hellebuyck !

ALL 4 of the Canadian goals against him were in the top corners.

In fact, the Finish goal was also up high.
That’s true. If you’re gonna score you need to pick a corner.

That being said I don’t think her let in a single bad goal - maybe the Finnish one but I’m convinced it was deflected.
