Based on this tournament.

Raised:

Brady Tkachuk - The premier power forward in the game, now everyone knows.
Mitch Marner - A very big game at a big time. That’s big for his narrative.
Jordan Binnington - He may let in the odd softie, but he’s Mr. Clutch for the rest of his life.
Zack Werenski - Not a lot of people watch Columbus. But they should to see him play.

Hurt:

Auston Matthews - I thought he coasted through the first 3 games, and while he got some chances tonight when he got paired with Brady, he once again couldn’t score in the big moment.
Jack Hughes - Looked like a junior player out there.
Devon Toews - He was okay with Makar, bad without. May have played himself off the Olympic team.
Mark Stone - Still a great NHLer, but couldn’t keep up with the pace of best on best.
Adam Fox - He’s good?

Matthews has been playing injured all year and had two assists in the finals.

Some of the takes on this website tonight are incredibly moronic. Eichel scored 0 goals in the tournament. Did his stock drop? What about Matthew Tkachuk?

Eichel and Matthew Tkachuk have won cups and have proven themselves in big games.

Matthews is the league’s “premiere goalscorer” who can’t seem to score when the moment gets big. This was just another missed opportunity for him.

If he had scored in OT the narrative would have changed. I would’ve listed him next to Marner. But he didn’t.

Jack Hughes was terrible. Did not do anything at all

In Matthews defense, he would have absolutely had a goal tonight had Binnington not played out of his mind. I think Auston looked really dangerous tonight, had a pair of assists and multiple point blank chances. He just got goalied.

Honestly, Slavin was amazing.

I knew he was good, but wow he was so dominant on the ice making clutch play after clutch play. Hurricanes are lucky to have him.

Brady Tkachuk too. Showed he can be a serious playoff performer if given the chance.

On the other hand, Jack Hughes damaged his rep. Not good at all while also getting tossed around.

For the Canadians, Marner improved his rep and so did Harley. I was surprised at how composed Harley looked. Some of the other big game players are already proven in the playoffs so basically maintained their rep.
