Speculation: Which player will get the worst contract in this free agent class ?

Everyone is saying Bennett so I’ll say Boeser.

Injury prone, slow as hell, useless defensively. At least Bennett plays hard.
You obviously don't watch Brock.
Aside from the head shot which likely cost him a second 40 goal season, he's been pretty healthy for the last 2+ seasons.

He's come a long way defensively and yes his plus/minus was poor this year but every nuck took a major hit due to our goalies having a sub 900 sv% combined with Lankinen only 902 and with Brock matching against top lines he was on the ice for a lot of GAA and a lot less this year for GF, not his fault.

I'm not saying he's selke level but this whole he's shit at defense has been false for three years.
Maybe don't just stay watch?

Lots of teams have cash. Lots need a C. Bennett will get a lot. As to whether it’s worth it.

If Bennett went to Winnipeg where he properly slotted between Scheifle and Lowry the fit would be great and he might be overpaid but it could be worth it.

If he goes to Chicago and they want him to be a 1C it will be overpaid and a failure.

Oh, a lot of worthy candidates to choose from:

Bennett will get crazy money and I think that the Leafs could very well be the ones handung it out.
I don't think he will just mail it in but players like him tend to age baldly and the offensive numbers just aren't there.
But I think Ekblads contract will be even worse. He seems to be on the decline already but some GM will just see first pairing right handed shot on a Cup winner and lose his mind.

John Tavares is a future Hall of Famer and had a great comeback season but I really doubt that he will have a season as good as last ever again. Especially with lesser linemates.

Others I would be cautious to invest too much:

Gavrikov - had a fantastic season where he overperformer and will be one of the best UFA defensemen but I am not sure if he can keep that level of play up for the long run
Kuzmenko - also looked great in LA on a line with Kopitar and Kempe but has been nightmarishly inconsistent so you don't want to commit long term deal

Worst meaning ridiculous , overvalued and bloated ; buyout fodder.

I think everything is aligning for Sam Bennett to get one of the worst contracts in recent memory. I could have sworn I heard Nick Kypreos said on his show today that Sam Bennet would get 90 million dollars. Do you think it will get that bad ? He's a 50 point tweener. "But he's a winner. He got that dawg in him" as Nick also said.
I was crazy for suggesting bennet was worth 6m, 7m tops.

I don't know if teams will be willing to hand out term for Boeser considering his down year, the tire fire in Vancouver, and the alleged lack of interest for him at the trade deadline. On the other hand, with the shining aura around Florida, players like Bennett are prime candidates to get overpaid, especially with his grittiness.

I think Bennett re-signs with Florida and doesn't even make FA.

I'm gonna throw out Cody Ceci. I think someone pays him 4-5M AAV for 4-5 years

It’s clearly Bennett. Some desperate GM will overpay him because of his playoff production, and that GM will probably be on a non playoff team, which will result in them paying a 40-50 point middle 6er like 8+ per, and not even getting the benefit of his playoff production
This has Sweeney written all over it

Bennett/Boeser are the obvious choices.

I will go off the board a bit and say Dante Fabbro, wouldn't be surprised if some team gives him something like 5x5 or more and could regret that pretty quickly.
