Worst meaning ridiculous , overvalued and bloated ; buyout fodder.

I think everything is aligning for Sam Bennett to get one of the worst contracts in recent memory. I could have sworn I heard Nick Kypreos said on his show today that Sam Bennet would get 90 million dollars. Do you think it will get that bad ? He's a 50 point tweener. "But he's a winner. He got that dawg in him" as Nick also said.

Sam Bennett's UFA situation feels a lot like Bobby Holik's in 2002.

NYR gave him an absurd 5 year deal worth 45 M that year to get him out of Jersey. Very quickly, it became clear the Rangers made a huge mistake. Holik was not a front line C, he was a hell of a #3 C on a contending Devils team. NYR tried playing him higher up, it did not work.

But I am dubious that in a 110 M+ cap world we are headed towards, Bennett on a 8-9 M AAV will ever be such bad value his next contract will be bought out. He should still bring 4-5 M of yearly value one would think. That guy cares too much to just start coasting after signing a big deal.

Was it Kyper that said Ryan Suter was going to Detroit, or was that Renaud Lavoie?

Ahh yep. That was the Tweet.

If Anaheim wants Marner, which I’m skeptical of, I have a bad feeling of where that contract offer could be and I think it could be in the “he can’t turn that down” territory

i'd say boeser but i don't actually think any team is stupid enough to give him term and dollars

bennett will almost certainly get the worst deal of free agency but i can see some stupid team making ekblad one of the highest paid players in the league

Really hoping that Bennett has enough sour grapes from playing in Calgary that he isn't considering them as a destination.

Someone is going to pay him North of $9 million, and it's going to be bad right away and downright awful in 2-3 years.

I can see Bennett on the Ducks along with their recent signings of tough, hard nosed vets in Gudas and Trouba. Don’t think he’ll be overpaid though, the Ducks GM is smart
If he doesn't overpay, he wont get Bennett. If he's smart, he'd go for Marner instead. Career PPG players under 30 rarely if ever get overpaid.

hard nosed vets is the flavour of the week and that is why Bennett will get overpaid

It’s clearly Bennett. Some desperate GM will overpay him because of his playoff production, and that GM will probably be on a non playoff team, which will result in them paying a 40-50 point middle 6er like 8+ per, and not even getting the benefit of his playoff production

I think someone will pay Bennett 8M a year which is absurd for someone who has only hit 50 points once in 12 years.

Also whoever gives Boeser 8M+ will also regret it quite quickly.
Agree on Bennett, totally disagree on Boeser.

8 million for a guy that hit 40 just a season ago and was on pace until the vicious head shot pretty much ruined a big part of his season, not to mention the fact he played for an offensively handicapped coach.

He's put the injury history behind him head shots don't count and has basically paced for 30+ goals his entire career.
He's also shown to score clutch goals in the playoffs since college.

The only issue with Brock will be term because of his foot speed, tho he could just turn into the next Toffoli

Bennett/Ekblad rewarded as cup winning champions elsewhere but elsewhere is not Miami with Barkov.

And whoever the Panthers sign will be a deal. Marner and Dvorak?
