There's no way that's accurate

I'd be interested in knowing what Tkachuk actually weighed coming out of the lockout. Probably smaller than Byfuglien at his biggest, but he was still pretty fat iirc.

Looking through the last 30 years of NHL drafts, Byfuglien was the heaviest player drafted, tied with Derek Boogaard (who had about 4 inches on Buff).

There are some guys that came close, Frazer McLaren, Joe Finley, Kristian Kudroc, Zdeno Chara, Kyle Freadrich, Chris McAllister, and Boris Valabik but they all have inches on Byfuglien too.

FWIW, when Eric Lindros went 1st overall in 1991, he was not only the first player selected, he was also the heaviest in his draft year, listed at 240lbs.! Jaromir Jagr was also heaviest in 1990, drafted 5th overall. Lemieux was only lighter than Al Iafrate and Kjell Samuelsson in 1984.

The Nucks have Tryamkin coming over sometime soon.
Benning says he's 6'8" and 240 pounds.
He's relatively young (21)...so with a little filling out, and perhaps an addiction to hot dogs, he's got the frame to challenge Buff.

Buff is the biggest guy hands down. But if he lost all his excess fat, he probably goes 220-ish.

Tkachuk had a similar picture. I thought he was pushing 300 as well, even though the article only says over 260.
I'd almost be afraid to draft his kids for fear they may have inherited their dad's eating habits.

I think if Buff was super lean he is still 245. He is a huge, huge man. At 225 he would probably have sunken cheeks and look emaciated. Chara is super, super lean and has as little body fat as is possible and he is 265. Sure he has height on Buff. But Buff is a bit broader. No way Buff could be 225.

One of Broda’s greatest adventures came off the ice. Early in the 1950 season, when the Grey Cup was taking over the sports pages, Leafs owner/operator Conn Smythe decreed that Broda was too fat and would not play again until he lost weight.
Broda was featured on the front pages every day, often clad in a towel, sitting on the scales. Fans sent hundreds of diets to the Gardens and the papers. Broda missed a mid-week game, then returned for the Saturday nighter and gained a shutout.
“It was great stuff, a million laughs,†Broda said later. “Funny thing was, I never lost an ounce.â€

I object to several guys on this list, but I'll give them credit for Penner, who I forgot about. He was, what, 6'6, 6'7? A 6'6 fat guy's going to weigh an awful lot more than a 5'9 fat guy like Thomas.

Penner was actually only 6'4, so tall, but not up there with some of the others on the list.
