Would not think it was anyone before 1990, so this is probably the answer. Or am I forgotteing some obvious freak of nature from the past?

And I know big lads, being quite big my self, can change their weights real fast. It´s quite easy to put on and get off as I see it. So would be interesting to see what Byfuglien weighted in on most. Think I have seen 260 lbs at least on him...

I don't think he was the heaviest, but certainly in his day he was one of them, if not tops.

Lou Nanne on Elmer "Moose" Vasko

"Wren use to worry about Moose Vasko's weight a lot, so he had a fine for him: $100 for every pound over 220. Moose knew he couldn't control his weight, but he figured out how to put a piece of metal under the scale so that it would never go over 220.

Countless times, Wren would come down in and say: "You fat pig, Moose. Get on that scale. I know you're over 220, and it's 100 bucks a pound." Moose would get on, the scale would stop at 220, and Wren would say,"Damn, you look bigger than that."

Moose was usually about 250, of course."

How about since NHL began?

I can tell you that the current ( as of 1 year ago yesterday) heaviest player is John Scott at 270lbs.

Laraque and Worrell were both over 250lbs at peak weight... but their listings were still older ones from when younger.

Worell I believe was ~250-260lbs.
Laraque was ~260-270lbs.

When Byfuglien got arrested for the drunk boating escapade he was weighed at 286lbs.

I dont know if this is accurate but Howard McNamara, the guy that was the captain for the Habs when they won their first Cup in 1916, is listed at 240lbs. With the average size back then being less then it is now, he must have looked like a super giant compared to other players.

Lindros, because of how much his ego weighed.

As a Ranger Eric seemed to be a great guy. I wish more people knew him in those years. He may have been caught up in some ego stuff as a kid. Bobby Clarke probably was not the greatest guy to deal with at that time as well.

Steve McKenna, a 6'8" goon for the Kings and Penguins should be on that list as well.

Yeah I have heard that Byfuglien has played at over 280 at the least, I think he is probably your answer.

Wow, I never realized he was that heavy. Surprising he was as mobile as he was, because, in those days, that would all be fat.
