People are crapping on Wright because of his playoffs, but when you look at Svechnikov's OHL playoffs, it wasn't much better ... Yet, what an awfull player now.

Wright will be our franchise player in a few years.

Svechnikov displayed a desire to want the puck in key situations. It's not all about production. Will and want in crunch time matters. Despite being a very young player he's got 24 pts in 32 games kn the playoffs. Looks like that desire and want has scaled.

Ya Svechnikov is actually a very valid point. I'd just like to see Wright take over a game like how he did in the U18s, that's where my concern is, he hasn't taken over a game much this season from what I've seen/read. I'd like more goals from him, but the main issue is his lack of compete. That being said, I do think that people are getting worried too much. Wright has the highest floor and this season his ceiling is Suzuki/Hischier whereas other years it was a 90 point 2way center ceiling just last year. If he falls between that range then he's gonna be a great player regardless.

If Montreal has doubt about Wright, I would offer pick to Colombus for 6 and 12. Draft Cutter and Mintyukov. He is left shot but plays both sides well.

I think Cooley will end up the better offensive player, so if we pick Wright gotta hope he makes up the difference with his 2-way play and bigger size.

My original point, or the one I was trying to make was when there is a clear #1 consensus pick it's awfully tough for a team not to take that player.

As suggested by Jeff Marek on his podcast, I would certainly be interested in trading our 1st overall pick...to the Coyotes... for their 3rd overall pick...and their 1st round pick in 2023.
We would get Logan Cooley... this year and a very high end player next year...increases our chances of getting Connor Bedard.

I'd say we should look at trading down and taking Jiricek
If we really like David Jiricek...we should trade our 1st to Columbus... for 6th and 12th pick.... it's like trading Shane Wright for David Jiricek and say Brad Lambert or Connor Geekie. Interesting possibilities...

Connor Geekie's playoffs haven't been much impressive... I can't wait until they draft Wright and we just can enjoy having this pearl in our system.

If the player they really want isn`t Wright would make sense to make a move like that but only down one or two places. Like Rick Dudley did twice and still got the players he wanted (Jay Bouwmeester and Nathan Horton). Compounds things that the draft is in Montréal, can just imagine the reaction as the draft starts by Gary Bettman announcing `We have a trade to announce`.

I don’t know why Arizona would do that. But if they did I’m sure their GM would have the vision to make next year’s pick protected.

That might be the dumbest trade I’ve ever heard from the Yotes but I wouldn’t say no. If anything it would be swapping picks for both years with a sweetener from Arizona.

Like 2014 draft... Ekblad exceptionnal statue, after his draft it's Connor McDavid.

2022 draft, Shane Wright exceptionnal statue, after his draft it's another Connor... Connor Bedard.

Ekblad he is a franchise D-man, number one D for Florida... he always play a mature game.

Wright will be a franchise player for Habs team, number one C... he always play a mature game too.

Both are not McDavid, Bedard or Makar... but both Wright and Ekblad are really really good hockey players.

And why would Arizona do this? They can still likely draft Cooley at no. 3 because NJ is very likely NOT drafting a center at no. 2. Jeff Marek, like most people in sports media is an idiot. Unfortunately it's not a profession that draws high IQ people.

I think Weber's contract has to be involved in any trades with Arizona.

On what planet would they do that, lol. Maaaybe they would make that trade if it involved just swapping picks next year, but straight trading the first pick next year would be insane.

I mean that's fair but outside of Svechnikov, those aren't players who have exactly become game breakers or really anything yet.

At least in the gold medal game, Cooley drew penalties, created offensive chance after chance, nearly tied it late with a shot that caught the post.

It's just annoying that people will come up with ten thousand excuses as to why Wright doesn't have a pulse or desire to make a difference in his series. It's fine if he doesn't produce and they lose, that happens but at least go assert your will.

He's going to get torn to shreds here playing like that.

He's in the front run to be selected first overall all year long. If he was as bad as you describe him, he wouldn't be on the top of the list.

You are judging him on this series only without any inside information. he could play injured. That's it.

Even though I think he should be our pick and BPA, I understand the concerns you and a few others have regarding his involvement and urgency. Not comparing them on every aspect, but would you say that those were some of the same concerns people had about Getzlaf back in his draft year? Honest question because I don't remember exactly what was said about him then.

Anyhow, I think that his implication/intensity can change with time, experience and proper coaching. His hockey IQ can't, but the good thing is that he has that in spades...

If we had the old regime here, with their total ignorance/disregard for proper development, I'd be worried about picking him and playing him in the NHL right away.

With that being said, my opinion is that you pick Wright and make development the most important aspect of your organization. The rewards can be franchise-altering.
I could be wrong but i have always think that the players with very good I.Q. are considered as being lazy or unimplemented. They simply play the game differently , they don't involved because they are in their head, studying the play.

I'm judging his play-offs yes, because that's the only play-off evaluation we will get before the draft.

Would you prefer that our scouts don't watch his play-off tape and ask 0 questions about it?

100% you pick Wright. Very high chance he becomes a superstar and we have been waiting decades for a player with that potential. Easy decision IMO and it would be a huge huge failure to pick differently. Kid was considered a generational talant not long ago and what a huge chance for us to finally get that high end talent we have been missing. We were very lucky to win the lottery so im just gonna enjoy this and not get invested in the nitpicking of his play in the playoffs and just be excited to finally get a first overall pick. Go Habs Go.
