The way I see it, players who are 23ish will be in their prime for the next two Olympics. The nation with the best U24 rosters will perhaps be best set up to have success in those tournaments.

So which nations have the best crop of up and coming players? Name your U24 National team!

Canada needs to work on defencemen and goaltenders. Forwards... not so much.

I would replace Gormley with Dillon and Poulin with Jones.

Lines could be different, however the 2nd line should stay as it was a pretty good one when they played in WJC.

Armia - Barkov - Lehkonen
Pulkkinen - Granlund - Granlund
Hartikainen - Teräväinen - Rajala
Donskoi - Haula - Salomäki

Määttä - Ristolainen
Vatanen - Eronen
Hakanpää - Pokka

Ortio
Saros
Aittokallio

well canada would win olympic gold with that roster

They probably wouldn't even get a medal with that roster.....

Sweden:

G:
Lehner
Markström
Lindbäck

D:
Karlsson
Ekman-Larsson
Hedman
Brodin
Lindholm
Larsson
Erixon

F
Landeskog
Johansson
Zibanejad
Kruger
Lindholm
Forsberg
Päärjärvi
Josefsson
Larsson
Rakell
Silfverberg
Lander
Lindberg

Excellent goaltending and defense, offense not so much. They could still give any other u23 team a run for their money though. A lot of good two-way forwards which would make this a though team to play combined with the D and Lehner.

I would drop B. Schenn for J SCHWARTZ Also B GALLAGHER and R SMITH I would add (Boston rookie they got from Dallas who has been outstanding for the Bs this year.)

On D I'd move Schultz up in place of Myers. drop Gormley for B DILLON/T.J. BRODIE or Gelinas the N.J. rookie. All 3 of my additions I have rated above Myers and Gormley is not currently rated.

Erik Karlsson - Victor Hedman
Hampus Lindholm - Jonas Brodin
Oliver Ekman-Larsson - Adam Larsson

Jakob Silfverberg - Mika Zibanejad - Gabriel Landeskog
Filip Forsberg - Elias Lindholm - Marcus Johansson
Magnus Pääjärvi - Marcus Kruger - Viktor Arvidsson
Rickard Rakell - Anton Lander - Johan Larsson

That's about the best forward group I could come up with, not really based on roles or anything

Fowler-Carlson
Jones-Faulk
Trouba-Bogosian

Gibson

If this team were to compete it'd probably need some better role players in the bottom six. It'd have a chance simply with the best goaltending and one of the best defense.

The forward group on the other hand.... :(

Canada needs to work on defense? looks like a pretty good lineup to me. Besides, Drew Doughty might make this team :) . Also Morgan Reilly.....

Yeah, Dillon should be there. Schwartz as well. Missed a few guys off the top of my head.

Drew Doughty might be too old for this team :) . Yes Canada needs to work on defence. Canada is producing forwards far better than any other nation. When it comes to defencemen, Sweden seems better lately and USA is at least on par. Goaltending for Canada has been mediocre at best.

Depends on what year you use as the cutoff. 1990 born players would be too old for a 2014 tournament, but since most of the rosters have 1990 players on them I assume that was the year everyone was using.

Regardless, Doughty is a 1989.

Holy hell that D, no slackers in that group

Scary to think what Sweden's blueline could look like in 2018

Not sure if you're serious but I think Canada most definitely would medal with that roster

I just picked players who were 23 or under on that date. Players born in 1990 or later fit the bill.

Finnish forward corps look frightening strong moving forward:

Armia - Barkov - Kapanen
Laine - Granlund - Puljujarvi
Nattinen - Teravainen - Saarela
Maenalanen - Haula - Salomaki
Hartikainen- Granlund- Pulkkinen
Lehkonen - Rajala - Haapala

Taylor Hall - Steven Stamkos - Jordan Eberle
Evander Kane - John Tavares - Tyler Seguin
Ryan O'Reilly - Matt Duchene - Jeff Skinner
Jaden Schwartz - Sean Couturier - Ryan Johansen
- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Nathan MacKinnon and Reilly Smith

Ryan Murray - Alex Pietrangelo
Michael Del Zotto - Travis Hamonic
Tj Brodie - Tyler Myers
- Justin Schultz, Brendon Dillon and Dougie Hamilton

Jake Allen
Martin Jones
- Kevin Poulin?
