Stankoven plays with other great players and has the same stats as Michkov. He also got more than a taste of the league last year, is older, and isn’t playing in a new country and continent.

Michkov is also lugging around a bunch of bums with a hard ass coach who scratches him because toughness or something.

Despite being a huge fan of Celebrini and Hutson (duh), I'm voting Stankoven. He was expected to be excellent and has been. I really love his game. I really like Michkov too. Probably 2nd in my mind today. Again, not surprising. This is such a stacked rookie class.

Stankoven at 5v5, Michkov on the PP

Linemate quality is about the same honestly. Johnston and Benn are not having good years so far.. who is Michkov spending most of his time with?

I also noticed Michkov averages almost 2 more minutes per game than Stankoven. Coaching argument really isn't what people are making it out to be.

Stankoven being on a deeper team means he won't see every single prime opportunity the way Michkov does. Stars have other options.

That's the thing about deep teams is it lowers most guys offensive numbers imo

Celebrini definitely has a chance to be a contender as well. Hutson has a chance simply because of where he plays, even before considering his on-ice play so he's a threat too

You can say whatever you want, but he's still 3rd in points, behind only Stankoven and Mitchkov AS A DEFENSEMAN and he's playing fantastic

At worst he's a finalist, and he might win the whole thing

I'm not saying he won't be, I'm just saying it'll be easy for him to get recognition so he's definitely a threat either way

Let's not overlook Wolf.

He's currently 3rd in sv%. The flames 5v5 defense has been good, ranking 9th best in the league. But their PK has been absolutely abysmal, ranked 26th best.

He's been the best player on the flames most times when he's on the ice.

Im not sure you can say the same for Michkov when Konecny leads the team in points and goals by a decent margin, and certainly not Stankoven.

Obviously a lot can change and it's far more likely Michkov maintains around a PPG than Wolf maintaining his current sv%.

But at this very moment? I do think Wolf has been the best of the rookies.

he has a good shot at getting a nomination. imo as long as mitchkov and stankoven are healthy they'll earn two of the nominations. the last one comes down to hutson or wolf.

Wolf is a dark horse for sure, and could win it with a solid season, I agree

I have my own bias, but right now, at this point, if I had to rank them, I'd say:

Mitchkov
Hutson
Stankoven
Wolf

It might not be more impressive given age and the variance of the position, but I feel like a top 10 goalie is definitely better than sub-PPG forwards

Michkov has mostly played with Konečný and Couturier so let's not pretend like the same doesn't apply to him in that regard. Five-on-five he has been on ice for 1.8 goals for and 2.6 goals against /60 while Stankoven has 3.7 goals for and 1.8 goals against likewise. It's a rather different experience watching the two.
