Line Combos: Which forward lines do you want to see in the playoffs?

Which forward group combinations would you rather have?

I was more saying what I think will happen, than what I want to happen.

Mostly, I just don't want to see Zetterlund buried on the 4th line, and with Cousins coming back to supplant 1 of Highmore or Gaudette, we don't have to have our 4th line as such a glaring weakness.
I don't think Green has any plans to change the 3rd line. They are his go-to line.

What makes you think Cousins/Gaudette/Zetterlund is a glaring weakness for us? That is the best trio we have had. Each of them can score and both Cousins and Z can and should get the puck deep and cycle.

Zetterlund will get PP2 time and most likely some minutes to spell G on the top line. His job is to make an impact on the 4th line and tilt the ice with his forecheck.

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Zetterlund
Perron - Cozens - Batherson
Greig - Pinto - Amadio
Hodgson - Cousins - Giroux

The strategy behind it is that the 2nd and 3rd lines have great chemistry so unless they aren't performing then they should be kept together.

The Tkachuk - Stutzle - Zetterlund line has shown some flashes and if it struggles you can always move Giroux back up there.

Hodgson brings a lot of speed, energy and physicality and the team doesn't have a lot of that element. I think Hodgson could help create turnovers with his aggressive forecheck and Giroux and Cousins could take advantage of those turnovers for scoring chances. I think that 4th line likely gives the Sens some timely goals or at least wears the opponent down for a line change.

This.

This is my preference too. Zetterlund looked good with Stutzle and Tkachuk the few games they played together. You don't break up the 2nd and 3rd lines, they've been clicking. That makes Giroux is the odd man out of the top 9.

Probably the only logical way to go for the start at least…
Its the best we can do without moving Greig to 4C and bring Highmore in , let Gaudette watch in street clothes.. that doesn't seem to be on the table yet.

I get not wanting to split up the 3rd line so we can use it as a shut down line.

It would seem so, but he did break them up the last time they were rolling. Odds are you are probably right heading in to the playoffs though.

I don't think they are. I meant past tense as a weakness and that we can now potentially turn it into a strength with 10 legit top 9 forwards plus Cousins back.

Fair to say. I've liked Zetterlund's chemistry with Stu lately while Tkachuk has been out.
The thing is if you don’t “bury” Zetterlund, who do you put on the 4th line?

Perron, Giroux, Greig, Amadio?

All of them are better than Zetterlund.

And yes I trust Giroux more than Zetterlund.
That's the conundrum.

I think the bolded is debatable to some extent and role and I feel like he's getting his feet under him now, but I do like all the players listed.

Tkachuk-Cozens-Batherson
Zetterlund-Stutzle-Giroux
Perron-Pinto-Amadio
Cousins-Greig-Hodgson

I really don't want to see Gaudette or Highmore on the team, but I know it will happen.

I was scrolling down to post this as well.

I don't think we should f*** with the middle two lines. Great chemistry.

People won't like Giroux on the fourth but he will get specials teams & important face off time.

I think these lines would be hard to play against.

If you guys dont think Giroux is going to have another level in his game come playoff time you're going to be pleasantly suprised.

Get ready for our young guys to really struggle in game 1. The vets are going to have to hold down the fort. for the first 10 minutes especially.

Thank god Highmore is out of the top 12 and Hamonic is on the 4th pair. This was always what I expected as this is what works best and has all season.

I know you dont like Gaudette but he doesnt turn pucks over like highmore does. He is also the only natural center. This is really good news overall.

That's the forward lines I predicted and without messing up the other lines Gaudette is the only option at 4C .. as unfortunate as that may be.
Cousins and Zetterlund will help the overall strength of that line.
Can't wait

why are they switching Zub and Jensen?

It's likely the best case unless someone like Cousins can play center but even then...

The reality is the difference between Highmore, Gaudette, Hodgson, Crookshank ect on the 4th line is small enough that whatever you might think you gain by subbing someone in for Gaudette, you probably lose in Cousins being rusty at playing center.

Highmore just seems really close to being an ok 4th liner, but like you said, he just turns over pucks at the most inopportune times. He'll make a great play to break something up, then give it right back, or flub the clear and he doesn't do enough offensively to make up for it.

I was looking at our line ups on DailyFaceoff and saw that Batherson was heavily featured on the first unit PP.

I guess the Leafs heard he was special on the PP because...

Gonna be a tiring series for Drake!

The Greig-Pinto-Amadio line is so good, so not that I want or expect it to happen, but... if we lined up like this:

1st: Tkachuk-Stutzle-Giroux
2nd: Perron-Cozens-Batherson

3a: Crookshank-Pinto-Amadio
3b: Cousins-Greig-Zetterlund

We could probably just roll through the lines without worrying about who is out there. We basically just wouldn't have a 4th line.

Among forwards Highmore (2.42) and Gaudette (1.95) have the highest per 60 giveaway-takeaway differential . Highmore leads.
They are both replacement level players. Amadio (.6) has the lowest differential.
