With the pens in a down turn /freefall, Crosby may not play playoffs again unless he leaves pitt. Would guess at a minimum McD catches him, maybe Kuch too.

I voted Crosby.

I think Crosby has some bit left in him, and I also don't think Penguins should have been missing the playoffs with their roster recently. The coaching change is waaaaay overdue. It's not even about Sullivan being a bad coach (he's not) - it's just that coaches have a shelf life, and for whatever reason his shtick stopped working in Pittsburgh a long time ago. That Penguin core in particular has been extremely reactive to new coaches too - with all of their successes usually occuring after a new coach comes in.

Point is - Crosby has 201 points. If he doesn't make playoffs again, he will be passed. But I could see him add to his total and end up closer to ~220+ still. I don't think Kucherov surpasses that - he might surpass 201 though.

As for McDavid - hard to say. Good chance he blows past either number - I predicted Oilers win the cup and McDavid the smythe this year. He's at 126 points now - that would put him at minimum ~150, and maybe as high as ~160+ by end of year. The unknown with McDavid are:

- Where does he end up after UFA? And if it's Edmonton - I don't necessarily like his chances. Oilers can win this year and next, but I don't see them still contending ~3+ years out.

- How well will McDavid age? His game is very reliant on speed, I could see him slow down a bit earlier in his 30s.

So I voted Crosby, but very good chance McDavid could pass him too.

First of all, all these players are crazy good play off performers.
I don't think Crosby will leave the Pens, so he won't play a game again in the playoffs.
Same for Malkin.

That leaves four 4 players. MacKinnon, McDavid, Draisaitl and Kucherov.
I am convinced, that at least one of them will catch Crosby. Chances are very good for each player.
It all depends on the team and amount of playoff games they will play. Draisaitl only has a chance to be the leader, if he and McDavid do not play for the same time after next year. Otherwise McDavid alway has the advantage of age and slightly higher output, even though it is close.

Imo no one can predict the amount of games those 4 players will play, but (at least) one will catch Crosby.
If I had to guess it will be McDavid, Draisaitl and MacKinnon who will all surpass Crosby with Kucherov very close to Crosby. Leading McDavid with at least 250 points

Kucherov might stick with Tampa as he already won 2 Cups. Crosby wouldn't have stayed with the Penguins if he didn't win Cups. He could "afford" to be loyal and stick since he already has 3 Cups.

Oilers better get their act together if they want McDavid to stick with them.
Kuch has a single goal in his last 3 playoffs including this year 15 games with a line of 15-1-16-17 seems to be slowing down a bit and might not make it out of the first round again.

Like I said their core is getting old fast and their draft capital isn't good either.

Kuch on one hand looked like he was close, now not so much IMO.

I don't get the poll results... You guys realize McDavid had 42 pts just last year? He's going to overtake Crosby in just a few years. All votes should be McDavid with maybe a few Kucherov/MacKinnon/Draisaitl for people who are strong believers in them.

McDavid is already after Messier's 2nd all-time place, 295 pts. He has to average 17-18 pts per playoffs for the next 10 years (and will probably continue to play after that)

McDavid is currently 80 pts behind Crosby and is also 10 years younger... You think McDavid isn't going to be able to average 8 pts per playoffs for the next 10 years? I mean, he had 42 pts a year ago...

"And its not going to get close?" 😲

I almost didn't see your post but that was me... quoting is better to give a chance for the poster to answer.

Last 3 playoffs : 33, 20, 42 pts

95 pts in just 3 years. If the Oilers are not serious contenders anymore, he'll be out of there in no time.

BUMP

McDavid now only 68 pts behind Crosby and 9.5 years younger.

I'm literally shocked that McDavid only has 51.9% of the votes here

McDavid all day, the abysmal Oilers team building ensure he has to kill himself every post season just for them to have a chance. Here is what McDavid actually thinks:
