Trying to see which contending teams are needing to dump cap somewhere and what expiring contracts they might be looking to get rid of.

Canucks in particular have been reported to be willing to weaponize their cap space in order to gain assets in which they can flip later. They will have around 12 mil cap space by the deadline. I'm sure they are other non-playoff teams with cap space as well.

Expiring contracts only please, no cap dumps with term.

Might be tough because there are not that many "bad contracts" out there anymore that are realistically going to move.

Like, I'm sure the NYI would love to move Engvall but the price would likely outweigh the trouble.

Not expiring but Colorado are shopping Mittelstadt and probably wouldn't mind moving on from Wood if someone wants his contract ($2.5m X5).

They'll probably need to move at least one of De Haan, Kylington, and/or Malinski to make room on the blue line for an upgrade or two.

Tampa would probably be happy to dump Sheary's contract and perhaps even one of Eyssimont/Atkinson/Glendening (all sub $1M AAV, expiring) if they have a trade put together for another forward.

That would make sense for Tampa for sure.

I was thinking Jeff Skinner for Edmonton (3mAAV)

Those are all likely pieces that could be attached to any trade you make at the deadline for space.
