Maybe the NHL should just give the Cumop back to Canada to do whatever the Hell we want with it, Have a tourney among Canadian NHL teams or have a committee that each year picks the most outstanding hockey team in Canada (regardless of level) and gives them the Cup. The NHL could then have a new championship trophy made -- paid for with American dollars, constructed from American materials, and made with American hands. Maybe then, my fellow Canadians, who bring up this nonsense every year about the Cup belonging in Canada, will finally shut up about it.

People love to talk on these boards about how embarassing various things about the NHL are. But for me, nothing is more embarrasssing than this nationalistic nonsense that we are subjected to every spring by some Canadian hockey fans.

Sure, I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is, I'm not. I honestly just feel that America is the best country and the other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

Patriotism =/= exceptionalism

One can be devoted to one’s country without having a notion that other countries “aren’t as good”.

-absolutely every team embellishes. If you think your team doesn't, you're wrong. I notice it when my team does it. The Oilers don't do it more. It just stands out either because you are biased, or because the Oilers score more on PPs so it's more noticeable

- your McDavid comment makes no sense at all. I dont see how you could have such passionate hate for a player you don't watch.

He’s a troll. Literally every single one of his comment is trolling.

He’s just not very good at it.

It's Official, the Oilers are Canada's team. The most Canadian Roster in the entire League lead by the the TRUE successor to Canadian Generational Players like Wayne and Mario in McDavid.

Supporting a Cup to Edmonton, is supporting the very fabric of the nation itself. The Cup drought will fall this year, be part of history or be left crying from the sidelines.

Hockey website is going to be frequented by mostly hardcore hockey fans. It's not a surprise that many around here aren't willing to cheer for just any team and might straight up actively cheer against certain fan bases. We are not representative of the average hockey fan honestly.

I am a Canuck that has been watching Hockey since the early 70's....and I would never cheer for Calgary ever even if we had a 200 year losing streak here in Canada.....NEVER.....I could care a less about the Canadian angle...hatred of the Flames takes precedent.....

The whole root for any Canadian team in the finals thing is so ridiculous to me. I root for the Edmonton Oilers I want THEM to win, not Calgary or Toronto. I wouldn't be caught dead rooting for the Canucks and that's what I expect from them concerning the Oil as well.

It reeks of insecurity to me and no other leagues fans I know of does this. Ask any Barcelona fan if they wanted Madrid to win the Champions League to "bring it back to Spain" and they'll look at you like you're crazy. This whole "hockey belongs to Canada" schtick is really old and tiring and frankly offensive.

You don't root for your rivals lmao

From what I can see if it’s Vancouver, Calgary or toronto fans? They want nothing to do with the oilers outside of maybe some leafs fans cheering on Hyman. They are all mostly cheering on Florida. But Montreal, Ottawa and Winnipeg fans from what I can see are on board. I feel that’s a pretty accurate take. At least on these boards. Lol. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter though. The whole Canada’s team is stupid as hell. The only time that matters is the olympics. That is when it is truly Canada’s team.

Well I say screw insecurity, rivalries and whatever else one cares to identify as the reason as a Canadian to cheer against a Canadian city finally ending the drought. I'm Canadian and a long time Blackhawk fan and though I would of course cheer Chicago on against all teams ( Canadian one's included ) I will always cheer for whatever Canadian team makes it to the finals .. even if I like the US team they're playing against ( except the Hawks! )
It's just time for this drought to end .. it will be good for the game and the league.

Bottom line is that the Oilers dive constantly, cry about it when the refs don't fall for it, and have a gutless coward wearing the C. Pretty hard to root for a team that disgraces the sport as badly as Edmonton does on a nightly basis.
Evan Bouchard having a key role in beating the Canucks and looking infinitely better than Hughes did must have cut you deep.

To answer OP’s question, Canadian hockey fans all hate each other
