I’m not sure I’d trade ohgren for him straight up so I’m saying 5

In terms of NHL projections, I could see him falling anywhere from 1-4. I have him at 4 for now just because he's new and I'm less familiar. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up the best player though.

I ranked him 4th, which seems almost unfair because the only reason I ranked him that low was because I know how he's looked in the NHL. The thing is, I don't know how Yurov or Buium look in the NHL yet. Jiricek would be ranked above them, IMO, based on play outside the NHL.

Sure as hell better be 4th, considering we gave up the #9 prospect( who should've been the #8 best ahead of Peart, who has been disappointing), and a 1st, 2nd and 3rd pick.

I have high'ish hopes for Heidt, and Ohgren can already be a bottom six guy NHL guy, so I might even put him #6. I can even see Marat developing enough to be a good middle six forward.

Hunt has 4 pts in 5gp in Cleveland, Jiricek 1 pt. in 4gp in Des Moines.

There is no doubt that RHD is a highly sought after commodity, which inflates his value.

Good thread idea, DB.

This makes me think about how Hunt is the more mature and polished product, which makes me think about how this is a pretty "uncharacteristic" trade for Guerin to make, when we think about what he typically likes in a player. Hunt seems like a prototypical Guerin player with some "f you", leadership, maturity, stability, etc, whereas Jiricek is the riskier player, little to no "f you", questions about character (warranted or not), but extremely high ceiling. Interesting trade for sure.

Kinda like the Yin to the Fiala trades Yang, if you will

Watched Jiriceks highlights from the wjc. Had such a good tournament. #4 for me.

He’d be a Top 3 prospect on just about every team in the league. Say what you will about Guerin, but he’s done a good job getting some blue-chip players in the system while remaining competitive through the buyout years.

At almost every position too. Right shot wingers seem to be the only current deficiency.

Though wingers playing on their offside, especially scoring wingers, has become quite common. Better angle to the net. It's really RHS C's and especially, RHD that are most in demand.

Why specifcally RHS Cs? I get that RHD but I would assume it doesn't matter which way the center because he's in the middle. I've played goalie all my life so I only really see through that perspective.

I’d say 4. If Ohgren keeps it up, Jiricek may slip to 5.

Also LOL at people putting Stramel at 17.

I'd put him at 4, although I could see why people would have Ohgren over him. I also agree I think Stramel is #4-6 as well. I think Ohgren, Stramel, and Jiricek in the #4-6 range makes sense behind Yurov, Buium, and Wallestedt. I think you could make an argument for higher if you think Wallestedt's stock has decreased slightly as he hasn't hit the pro game on fire but goalies and all of that.

Stramel > Heidt is how I feel as well. I do think Ohgren & Jiricek are a tier above Stramel though.

Buium
Wallstedt/Yurov
Ohgren/Jiricek
Stramel/Heidt

Buium just keeps chugging along, I think his consistency merits the top spot…for now. Wally & Yurov have had some hiccups but still blue-chippers. No problems with putting Ohgren or Jiricek in that 2nd group.

I think Khus is being underrated here too. He hasn’t been flashy because he’s been deployed in a role that requires him to be fully defensively responsible. I think we are gonna be surprised in 2-3 years when he becomes a solid 3c with some upside when needed.

I just watched, wow. He is really good with the puck. Really soft hands, big shot. Some Chris Pronger to his game stylistically. His skating also seems fine straight line... it's really laterally where he's a little heavy... but his size should make up for that as he matures.

I think maybe on skill alone, but Stramel as a big-bodied two-way center carries some value. I see some Coyle potential.

Wait....is that a hint of optimism?

At the moment, I like Ohgren more than Jiricek. But I’m guessing the big, rangy defenseman will take a few years to show his true potential.

Voted one, shiny new two. Highest draft pick since Gaborik? Yes we didn't pick him but have the Wild ever had a higher picked player since Gabrik?

To lazy to do the simple google search
