I say top 10, top 15 at the worst. What do you think?
He’s already cemented his name in the top 10Top 10. Maybe top 15 if you factor how underwelming he was in best on best play.
Imo OV is certainly in the top 30 best ever NHLers. Closer to 20 than 30. Great goal scorer. But did he play a complete game? Was he great without the puck? His greatness as a goal scorer ranks him high. The History of Hockey sub-forum had him at #22 in 2018, six years ago.
1) Gretzky
2) Howe
3) Orr
4) Lemieux
5) Hull
6) Beliveau
7) Roy
8) Harvey
9) Richard
10) Bourque
11) Morenz
12) Crosby
13) Hasek
14) Shore
15) Lidstrom
16) Jagr
17) Kelly
18) Potvin
19) Plante
20) Nighbor
21) Messier
22) Ovechkin
So let's look at the players he's surpassed:
21) Messier
20) Nighbor
19) Plante
18) Potvin
17) Kelly
I think most would agree that he's passed them, putting him at 17th all time.
Now it gets harder. Is he better than:
16) Jagr
15) Lidstrom
14) Shore
13) Hasek
12) Crosby
11) Morenz
10) Bourque
9) Richard
8) Harvey
7) Roy
6) Beliveau
5) Hull
You also have to throw McDavid in the mix as well, who many project to be #5, supplanting Hull.
So how far down this list do you place Ovechkin? Higher than Jagr? Lidstrom?
Crosby has no doubt moved up the list himself, many have him also fighting for that #5 spot. Does Ovechkin join him in leapfrogging Hasek? Morenz? Bourque? Richard?
I think it's not as easy as it looks to just unilaterally place him in the top 10. I'm not against the idea, but you'll need to explain who he supplants.
Outside top 100
He’s the most unique player of all time being an all time leader in goals and hits, having played the most unsustainable style of play and still scoring 50 in his late 30s.Imo OV is certainly in the top 30 best ever NHLers. Lmao, as if anyone takes that serious.Outside top 100
In a sport decided by goals, putting a player who's led the NHL in goals nine times outside of the top 100 All-Time (or 50 for that matter) is untenable.

He's been a trigger man, a la Brett Hull, for ten years now. Yes, he is an all-time scorer. Yes, it's important. But he is no longer a play driver and hasn't been for a long time now. He's top 15 maybe. Not top 10, IMO.He’s the most unique player of all time being an all time leader in goals and hits, having played the most unsustainable style of play and still scoring 50 in his late 30s.
The greatest goal scorer should always rank higher than playmaker as it’s much harder to score and you don’t get secondary goals
Brett Hull lags behind his dad Bobby on all time lists.Recency bias. People are looking at fading star and judging him by the last few years.
Prime Ovechkin was top3 all time. Even The ”improved Brett Hull & perennial (and only) 50 goal scorer”-Ovechkin should be top 10 easily. Ill rank him by prime and longevity, personal hardware. He should be very high up on the list.
As should Crosby.
As does OV.Brett Hull lags behind his dad Bobby on all time lists.
