It wasn’t until 90 mins before the deadline that he accepted the 12x8 offer from Dallas. Andy Scott & Rantanen didn’t blink until the last possible moment.

So yes, he was asking for $14.xx Million from Colorado, before settling for 12M from Dallas.

It’s been well documented by insiders and Rantanen that he wasn’t looking for 14M in january..

We’ve heard from so many people he walked into the office and said he’s willing to take a discount to stay and got traded minutes later

He signed 12M deal in Dallas which was 12.5M in Colorado, what again multiple insiders have said he’d have taken in Colorado

He signed a 12M deal in Dallas and got clearly bigger offers from Carolina and from Canada

It probably is, if you have not read them properly. Rantanen is my favourite player, and I wanted him to stay with the Avs. I maintained that his ability to produce points and produce in the playoffs (note that I have not touched on the playoffs at any point here in this thread) outweighed his "laziness", "regression", or "being carried by MacKinnon" or whatever words have been used to describe his play during the last 3 regular seasons with the Avs. I simply put out some data to demonstrate that when the Avs fans are talking about his play declining during the last 3 seasons, there is absolutely merit to those claims. A whole another discussion can be then had about what is the reason behind that regression. And I know, you are going to point at his point totals and say that "that's some regression when he scored back to back +100 point seasons". Yeah, we know he can put up points. But before 2022 there were some times legit arguments that Rantanen was, if not necessarily better than MacKinnon, but just as good. He could absolutely carry a line by himself, and did so in many occasions, especially when MacKinnon was hurt. This hasn't been the case during the last few seasons. MacKinnon exploding on his own right is obviously part of that, but Rantanen has simply not been able to do the same things he did pre 2022.

Seems like he has been doing it for the last few games, and we'll see how it goes in the future. I sure hope he really can step it up again, and become one of the best play driving forwards in the league again. Would be pretty good for next year regarding the Olympics

listen folks....as per rantanen and points in dallas. very hard to put up beacause dallas 4line team and seeing rantanen only playing 15 minits in games here. and no easy western side of hockey area he a playing. seeing rantanen knocking out ol colorado team of course no suprise still. makars no defensman and mackannon only speedy gonsalo with minimal brains. i sufferd watching rants in colorado team makars and mackannon soloing and rantanen letted hand out for playing give and go but they not taketh it there. hope he in dallas astill getting to play 25minits in games but i highly suspect they not letting rantanen going for points scorers trophy races. i say this...rantanen best player in this league. mediocre german and speedy gonsalo at edmonton playing with advantages in edmonton and playing easy westerna area. also tampaguy and edmontonduos playing in harmonisidet group at ice always every boty knowing what to do. rantanen only like playing alone at least in colorado. i may take questions this moment in time. with makars / mkackannon there no way to be playing give / go passing many times between hockey in offenszoun. this killing game. makars shooting softy at goal on pp and stealing this. . mackannon also not able doign this. they stressed asses off in games with rantanen and not having enough brains / talant. good rantanen got away. rantanen like passivily looked and cleaned after mackannon. that is not great hockey. mackannon needing like 50 chanches to score. he bumping head in wall time after time expecting other results. sologuy. makars is no defensman. he is joke. soloer. no skill. only skating..like mackannon. playing big minits . pointhunter. i feel going at coloradoforums with manure of truth but forum jedihunters propably stopping me once more time soi close boutiq here...they banning me from colorado forums. i once letting my knowledge and warnings and stuff there but they suffer from my word and look now who laughing and having right in all words. bye.

During his so called decline years he was on pace for 3 straight 100+ seasons before he got traded, in one of them he scored over 50 goals

During his so called decline years he out scored Nathan Mackinnon in the playoffs who’s thought of as a top 3/5 player in the league

Tell me a powerforward who can play 82 games averaging 22mins a game and keep the energy throughout the season and for the playoffs?

Everyone knows that and every player would say when you have to play top pair Dman minutes as a forward you have to save energy, you can’t go all out every game you have to pick your spots

It’s so stupid to read about his laziness when the guy had to play 25-26 mins in some games, as a powerforward. He played those minutes, he scored 100+ per season and not once complained. Yet this board by the xxx is all about complaining rather than being thankfull for having that caliber player in their lineup

In Dallas he’s playing 19-20mins a game, hey what do you know he has more energy at the end of games…

The Canes thought he would sign with them because the Avs implied he would during the trade negotiations. Canes found out after the trade Rantanen had no desire to stay there. Canes imo traded him to Dallas to get the return they did but also to put the shaft to Avs management. Canes come out okay. Dallas comes out great. The Avs look very foolish.

Yep, Rants and all the players thought they’d get it done, it was 6 weeks to trade deadline and 6 months to free agency

You can just see it in the Mackinnons post trade interview how mad he was and caught off guard

Avs management fell for the wisest men in the room syndrome and now have 1 less superstar on the roster, zero picks for the next 2 drafts, zero top prospects and little cap space
