Where is Rantanen? Who is Rantanen? Why is Rantanen? What is Rantanen?

He wasn't doing fine when I posted that but nice snipe. I'm rooting for him but if he goes back to doing nothing I'll be around.

Adjusted career playoff points per game before this round began:

Connor McDavid 2.15
Leon Draisaitl 2
Wayne Gretzky 1.97
Mario Lemieux 1.91
Bobby Orr 1.79
Nathan MacKinnon 1.77
Peter Forsberg 1.67
Mikko Rantanen 1.67
Nikita Kucherov 1.61
Joe Sakic 1.6
Sidney Crosby 1.58
Gordie Howe 1.57
Jean Beliveau 1.54
Bobby Hull 1.5
Cale Makar 1.48
Phil Esposito 1.47
Evgeni Malkin 1.46
Ryan Getzlaf 1.42
Patrick Kane 1.41
Gilbert Perreault 1.41
Brayden Point 1.4
Mark Messier 1.35
Jake Guentzel 1.35
Alex Delvecchio 1.34
Mats Sundin 1.34

This is among players in the top 250 all-time in actual playoff points and adjusted to the level of defensive team they faced in each series.

There has been a lot of talk about why Rantanen didn't play this well in Colorado when it mattered the most, so I had to go back and check the statistics for the Avs playoff games for the past two seasons. During that time, Colorado played a total of five elimination games (2x Kraken, 1x Jets, 2x Stars). In those five games, Rantanen had...

- One game-winning goal.
- One game-tying goal and the sole assist to the game-winning goal in the same game.
- Two times the Avs' lone goal in a 2-1 losing effort.

Yeah, Rantanen might've been playing lazy for the past few years, but it's pretty undeniable he has always delivered to at least some degree when it matters the most. This is the kind of thing all GMs are willing to pay good money for (except for MacFarland, apparently). With all this talk about the Avs playoff disappointments and Rantanen not being good enough and there not being enough cap space because of generational players like MacKinnon and Makar, one could almost ask the question: Where the hell were those guys in these five games?

If you add this season to the equation, during the past three years Rantanen has played 7 elimination games with a statline of 9+6=15.

Over 2 ppg in elimination games!

A massive reason for him looking lazy was due to the Avs playing Mackinnon and Rantanen to the ground

Avs played them like they were top pairing defenseman for 82 games and expected to follow that up with magic in the playoffs

Now in Dallas Rantanen is playing clearly less and surprise surprise has more energy at the end of games?

Is it still how it is?
absolutely. have already commented on multiple other threads that as an opposing fan that kind of performance involved a lot of flukey irreplicable plays that wouldn't worry me at all. not to mention at the very least he'd be down to only 9-10 points without the empty nets

he may still prove us wrong but he hasn't so far

So he'd be at his normal over PPG pace he was at but without McKinnon carrying him.

While he doesn't possess upper echelon talent, he throws the puck at the net when it matters. His play should be a PSA to every young Canadian and American player.

Hell even Euros with size, toughen up and throw the puck at the net, no need to play on the perimeter as y'all do.
