Where is Rantanen? Who is Rantanen? Why is Rantanen? What is Rantanen?

...You were the one bringing him up, not me or anyone else.

In this thread.

About Rantanen. Zero occurrences of the word 'Marner' on pages 16 or 17.

Feel free to proceed with your 1967 or 1st round 'clapback', as people are calling them these days.

Are you a Leafs fan?

the coach of the Avalanche? Still don't understand where marner fits in

It’s a comment on value. I don’t think Bednar wanted to trade Mikko. The GM chose to do that. Mikko ended up taking 12M. It’s the 12M that has everything to do with Marner, the inferior player.

Yes.

I also think trading Rantanen instead of meeting his number was a very, very poor decision, if the rumors were true (11.75 vs 12.5), you don't nickel and dime talent like him. At the very least, far more due diligence needed to be done...like an assurance that he'd sign with where he was traded, some sort of conditions placed on some of the returning assets that would get a boost if he was traded again.

Re: Marner. If he shits the bed again vs Florida then I hope the door doesn't hit him in the ass on his way out. Somehow the cosmos align and the Leafs win a Cup, give him what he wants.

Can’t have those types of things in a trade. Once the trade is made, Rantanen became Canes property and they could trade him to whomever. We know the Canes have a history of being spiteful (Habs JK for example) so they might have traded Rantanen to the AVS biggest rival to get a pound of flesh. If that’s the case, they got a lot more than just a pound.

Avs fans are Rantingen...at least some of them. Many were advocating to trade this guy and are now signing up for witness relocation. So not them. But some of us appreciated Mikko.

It kinda looked a little like self-hypnosis to me, the way the idea that out of such an offensively gifted stable of players, one particular guy could be enough of a passenger to warrant breaking up the band to get from underneath his next contract.

Justified in a number of ways at the time, though. Necas is a gamer, and the rumblings in Carolina these last few seasons about him not being happy with ice time or deployment did open an opportunity for the Avs to trade for a player they’d have more contractual leverage over, who also plays a style which could hum nicely with MacKinnon. (Maybe a Canes fan can chime in and confirm here but that’s what I recall ATM.)

The Avalanche have 7 or 8 years to get their get-back using the cap flexibility they sacrificed Rantanen for. If they arm up and go through Dallas on the way to a Cup, it’ll at least close the loop. If they don’t, this is modern day Scott Norwood, “laces-out, Dan!”, storybook shit.
