Can say the same about Makar offensively. Give some credit to the oppositions D.
 
Its amusing to me that of all the players involved in both trades his year, he has the fewest playoff points. He's supposed to be this big time playoff performer and he's just AWOL, with every other guy outpacing him, even Necas, who came back down to earth.

From a Canes perspective, it is nice seeing Svechnikov turning into the player we brought Rantanen in to be. Guy has absolutely stepped up this first round, which we've needed him to do for a while. Takes a lot of the sting away from what happened this year.

"Even" Necas who is a 1st line player? :D That's not the surprising one, neither is Stankoven.

How about 4th line center Jack Drury, certainly the forgotten piece of the trade, also outpacing him? Now that's something. :laugh:

Assuming this is correct, we're talking about a guy who is getting $12m a year for the next 8, moping around all over the ice because he wants to play for his opponent.

If this is true, he's going to be a complete trainwreck in Dallas. And it would effectively validate everything that was said about him during his time with the Canes

Incorrect. It was about playing in the Canes system, where he would have been in a much less productive role, not about Raleigh or Brind’Amour (as a person anyway).

The irony is that he got his wish to go to a place where he feels more comfortable with the system, and still isn’t producing.

I don't think you fully understood my point. My point is that it's not like Rantanen can just decide when he is going to be comfortable. Whether he knew about the match up two weeks or two years ago has no bearing in this argument because I argue it takes a lot of time to adapt into a new situation fully. Joe Pavelski is a good example of this: after 13 years with the Sharks on his first year with Stars he saw a over 40% reduction in his point production. After the first season he got back to his usual point producing pace he was on before the Stars and actually exceeded it.

About the bolded: to me it seems like he is doing exactly that. After four games against the Avs he is leading Stars in high danger scoring chances (10), has the second most shots on goal and is tied for the most blocked shots (6) as a forward with Granlund.

So he definitely is being active in both ends of the ice when it matters and you could argue he has been the most dangerous player on his team. So clearly there is an effort but he is lacking points still. This is where think the subconscious plays a part: it seems like leading the high danger scoring changes coupled with the 0 goals stat can be explained with Rantanen having a lowered self-confidence. If you think you can just actively fix your self confidence just like that I don't think you know what a low self confidence means. It takes time. And him making millions or being a pro athlete doesn't magically just give him the self confidence boost that he needs. Like I said it took Pavelski a year to feel comfortable on the ice and he was a millionaire and a pro-athlete too.

Pavelski was not a consensus top 10 player in the world in his prime (i cant imagine the last 2 months has done anything to confirm that)

And $7m vs $12m is a giant gulf in expectation too (not to mention the 4 draft picks and trading a fan favorite)

Then...he should have signed a contract with them over the past year.
 
A lot of vet coaches swear for cup runs you need your depth to carry you early because it takes time for the stars to adjust to the level of checking and they carry you the deeper you go. Heard this every year as a Leafs fan.

Not shocked if he wakes up mid way through round 2
