Speculation: WHERE IN THE WORLD IS JESSE PULJUJARVI?

Where did I write up a whole post justifying the move? I said he did the same thing that Zohorna did (started hot and then became mostly useless), but Sullivan pulled the trigger on him faster than he did with Zohorna. The "better alternatives" comment was comparing who Zohorna was competing with a spot for last year versus who Puljujarvi is competing for a spot this year. Zohorna was likely able to stay in longer because the other options around Zohorna were worse last year than the other options around Puljujarvi this year.

Would I have Puljujarvi in the lineup? Sure, but he's my 12th forward and I don't particularly have strong feelings towards him. You could play either Acciari or Puljujarvi as the 4th line RW and I wouldn't really care either way. My original post was not justifying the move, my original post was saying that Puljujarvi was just this year's version of Zohorna.
OK, but surely you can see how someone may interpret quoting his stats, comparing him to a guy no longer in the NHL, and then saying they have better options this year as justifying the move.

But I didn't say that, I said that they have better competition for spots this year than they had last year.

Emp, the problem with sticking to numbers is it's making an implicit argument. If that's not what you mean, then... maybe re-contextualize it, I dunno.

Yeah, lol. That's how it reads, IMO.

Anyhow, Poolparty is busy working as black ops agent, Sullivan is just covering for him.

Apparently the coach, and I guess also many of the fans think that Jesse's defensive game is lacking, and that is the reason he's out of the lineup. Maybe some of you could be more specific, what is he doing wrong, what kind of awareness or skills is he lacking?

Are you his agent or his mom?

I've been a big Poulin backer and am willing to give him another look at some point, but he was the third wheel on that line.

This isn't a good team. It wasn't supposed to be a good team. Why are we surprised that the fourth line has sucked?

I legitimately don't understand the complaints and mindset. This year was never about contending. It's about marinating, acquiring a few more assets, and hoping the young guys make a major play for ice time next year while making a few shrewd additions, with potentially one big splash or two to make a final run for 87/71.

Everything Dubas has said and done since last trade deadline has indicated this approach. It may fail spectacularly, but that's the plan.

Embrace the mediocrity for this year. Acciari, Nieto, Grzelcyk, Graves, Jarry, etc. are here to modestly improve the quality of draft picks and/or if we're lucky be worth a late round pick from some desperate GM in March.

If the argument is about performance why is Matt Nieto a lock for the line up?

It's his play in the neutral zone and defensive zone. Tracking opponents back, switching off/handing off assignments, staying in position, etc. Too often he's out of sorts and has to hope for some luck or be bailed out by teammates.

There just isn't enough there. And frankly, there hasn't been enough there from the others being discussed - Acciari, Nieto, Hayes, etc. - but it's not like Puljujarvi has other qualities that absolutely demand being in the lineup. Put the names in a blender and see what it spits out.

Because it's not about performance. It's about protecting the development of potentially valuable players and hoping that players like Nieto and Acciari interest someone enough to give you a sixth round pick.

It's the Chad Ruhwedel play. Ruhwedel is a dime a dozen 7th defenseman. Yet he was intriguing enough to convince the Rangers to give the Pens a 4th round pick, which the Pens used to get Tomasino.

That's why Nieto and Acciari are in the lineup. Not performance.

Please. They’re in because the coach thinks they’re good players despite every bit of evidence being in the contrary.

Pretty cool that the team has been spinning it's wheels like a buncha jackasses for like three straight seasons in part to help "build value" for goobers like Ruh and Acciari. Can't wait to rake in those 6th and 7th round picks while I tell myself how worth it it all is.

Please. They’re in because the coach thinks they’re good players despite every bit of evidence being in the contrary.

That's the real answer, yeah.

You’re truly deranged if you don’t think Mike Sullivan loves Noel Acciari and Matt Nieto.

Just think about what this team COULD have gotten for Rob Scuderi and David Perron had they just held on to them for a couple more miserable seasons to build their value!

To get back on topic, i remember almost fighting a kid in 4th grade for one of the limited ACTUAL floppy disc copies of Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego? for the Apple II that we had.

That and Oregon Trail were hot commodities.

If you lost out on the scramble, you'd have to play Number Munchers.....

I was lucky enough to have an Amiga at home waiting for me regardless. Which had way better games. You're right though that there was always a mad scramble for Oregon Trail.

The Carmen Sandiego TV show was amazing too.

I feel like a 23 year old Poulin would return more asset wise than a 33 year old Acciari, but you do you Deserted.
Sam Poulin cleared waivers so I'm not so sure about that.

Acciari probably would clear too though. They both have pretty much no value.
