Why does he get linked to ottawa so much? Hearst is like 10 hrs away.

Played junior for Gatineau which is across the river/border.

If Giroux was smart he'd sign for cheap and go to a contender. He's made a killing financially over his career and if all he wants is a cup, you gotta make it work on your end.

Not saying he should sign for the league min but less than 6 for sure.

Ya I could see him signing for 2-3 years at 5-6
Million? He has made 80…..

If he wants to be at home and compete. The only realistic place is Toronto. You would wonder if he wanted to do that? Seems unlikely if he actually cares about the “rivalry” although there hasn’t been one in decades. Heck the leafs and sens basically traded teams the last 5 years

I'm not even sure if he grew up a Sens fan, its probable but who knows.

Honestly, if he truly wants that championship he'll sign for 4/year or something in that range. Or he can look for $$$ like Iginla did and price himself out of a contender.

He's lived there since he was about 14 and continues to live there in the summer

There is a slot in Colorado as 2nd line Center available after this season.... Just sayin....

Honestly, i think he goes back to Philly to finish his career there.
At this point, Giroux is better off playing wing (while still taking faceoffs)

If all he wanted was a cup he wouldn't have blocked a trade to Colorado. Pavelski didn't have a cup when he signed with Dallas and the stars were more of a pretender in 18/19 too

French name, so obviously Montreal. Put him on a line with Laf (they will undoubtedly acquire him from the Rangers).

I was rooting for Florida to win the Cup to free Giroux up to play for the hometown team.

As it stands, I think he chases a Cup by signing with a proven playoff team.

Giroux moved to Ottawa at 14.

In speaking on Sirius XM’s NHL Network Radio yesterday, Philadelphia reporter Al Morganti expressed his belief that the only place that he envisions Giroux going is to the nation’s capital.

Philly reporter Al Morganti (@nufced) on @SiriusXMNHL on the possibility of Claude Giroux moving this season: “The only place I could see him willingly go to would be Ottawa.”

The Hearst native makes his offseason home in Ottawa. Giroux moved with his family to the nation’s capital when he was a teenager and playing for the Gatineau Olympiques.

Speaking to Frank Seravalli in 2010, Giroux told the reporter, “Ottawa is the next closest city (to Hearst) for us. Pretty much every one of my friends lives in Ottawa now.”

Well then you clearly don't understand the point.why would he block a trade to one of the top contenders that has already shown a lot of interest in him if the sole thing he wants to do is win the cup?

Him going to another top contender is irrelevant to my point
I'm not going to claim to know his mind but maybe he really wanted to be in the East. Odds favor an East club win and a State of Florida based win was a high percentage outcome before things started.

It is far more likely someone who has been competing since he was a small child, had personal reasons rather than suddenly losing interest in the thing he has worked his whole life to achieve.

You can try playing any sport for just money but if you don't love the game and love winning you won't even get to the point you'd be drafted. It's especially absurd to think there are noted leaders who don't care about winning.

Toronto is actually closer. Winnipeg is about 2 hrs farther. Hearst is about 10 hrs away from any major city.

Hmmm so I guess he took his shot at the cup
And is going to go home to family? I find it odd that he would go to a non playoff team…..
Why leave Philly as captain to go to ottawa.

It just seems strange. They are no where near ready to compete for a spot in the Atlantic. Irs

Contender or somewhere he has ties to?
I have no clue what his relationship is like with the Flyers but is there any chance he just goes back to finish off his career ? Signs for less than anticipated ?

Never say never, but I would be surprised to see him back here while Fletcher is still around. There are rumors (that the team of course denied) that Giroux would completely waived his NMC if Fletcher would have given him a handshake deal to bring him back next year. Fletcher declined. Then went on to say that (i'm paraphrasing a bit here) Giroux hamstrung the team with his NMC in defense of the shit return he got.

I love Giroux, but I don't want him back anywhere near this team. He deserves better than this dumpster fire.

Piling on, there were related rumors that the team wanted to facilitate a leadership change, specifically wanting a more "vocal" leader *coughCevincough*, which contributed to their refusal to even offer to meet with Brisson in the offseason. (Not saying they won't ultimately do so, but there's no indication Fletcher was willing to promise even that little in advance.) I'd be very happy if he came back, but entirely unsurprised if he doesn't.

That said, I have the odds at 45% Florida, 40% Ottawa, 5% Philadelphia, 10% the field.

Ottawa is closer, since he lives there for the last 22 years.
