Where does David Carle coach next season?

I know everyone hates the Anaheim coach but they played way above expectations this year. Can't see Cronin getting fired for Carle.

Chicago makes the most sense to me as the move. Bedard, plethora of prospects and a lot of cap space would be too tempting for a college coach to pass up.
They absolutely did not play above expectations. They were carried to right about what expectations were by two really good goalies. The process was very, very bad in Anaheim this year

Been a fan of his rise as a coach for a couple of years and have mentioned him a lot in the past for a Penguins hire but FSG is hell bent on failure, so Sullivan for life.

With Denver's elimination, Carle's season is over. I expect a lot of NHL teams are about to throw a lot of money at him. But I believe him when he says that he cares about the prospect of winning, too, especially given that he's likely to have some choices.

So where does he end up? Does he make the jump this season?

I think the best "fit" for him of teams with a chance to fire their coach would be Anaheim. But they could keep Cronin. Of the teams extremely likely to fire their coach or not continuum with their interim coach (NYR, Philly, Chicago, Boston, who am I missing?), none of them seem like great situations for one reason or another. If those are his only offers, does he stay at Denver? What would they have to offer in terms of control (or money) to get him to change his mind?

The wild card is of course if the Avs get eliminated early, which is possible, and they fire Bednar. I imagine that job would be very appealing for him.
I doubt the Avs fire Bednar.

I think there will be a few more teams that will pop up for coaching vacancies that aren’t listed yet. I pray the Penguins are added to that list for sure.

But I can also see Anaheim as you mentioned but also possibly Detroit.

I think he's getting double that at the NHL level with 4 year term. He's THE hot name.
Yeah, Carle holds all the cards here. He could ask for 2.5 without blinking and teams would jump at the chance to pay him that. The fact that he could make over a million at Denver only increases his leverage.

How was the process bad? Real question.

Their goalies were worth 15 wins?

Yes. Anaheim was a bottom 5 team in some of the most telling analytics. Expected Goals For/Against, slot shots allowed.

The eye test also bore it out. Dostal and Gibson were dominant up until right after the 4 Nations break and masked a lot of issues behind a team that wasn't good offensively or defensively or on special teams.

Ok fair enough. Fire Cronin.

I would imagine its head coach or nothing for him, but I also wouldn't be that keen on leaving Denver unless the situation is absolutely perfect. NCAA can be an amazing gig, shorter season, comparable money in some cases.

Yeah his last reported salary was over 800k.

Way less of a grind compared to the NHL. Hard to pass that up unless its for a position you really really want.

Carle would probably not take on a rebuild.

My guess is Philly makes a push for him.

I disagree. Hes young enough where he can spend time building a culture with a rebuilding team and grow with the players.

I'm biased but Chicago would be the perfect situation for him. No immediate pressure to win and a great young core thats developing together. Still have a lot of picks this year and next to add tot he core / include in trades. Tons of cap space too.

30th in xG%, pretty much bottom 3 on every single defensive metric you could think of, offensive metrics better but still bottom half of the league. If Dostal/Gibson had just been average they would pretty easily be in the Chicago/San Jose tier or right above.

Combine that with all of the stories about players hating or at least not understanding Cronin, guys like Zegras and Mintyukov taking a step back and only really LaCombe taking a big step forward and I worry about the process in Anaheim

I don't know. But I've heard the same argument to why he won't coach in the NHL all season: He's got a young family. Not that I understand what that has to do with anything. If any, that fact should make him want to coach a NHL team as soon as possible before his kid/kids are old enough to have settled down with friends and school in Denver.

I agree with this. Plus he'll have leverage to get that 5-6 year deal to commit to a place.

This is from an interview shortly after the WJC. His comments about a potential NHL job start at 8:51.

It would be a challenge - "lifechanging for myself and my family", "winning and the right vision to win" - to pry him out of Denver.
