As others have said, he's lost his foot speed and mobility. Still an okay poke checker but strong and physical in front and good on the PK. A good player for a 7th spot on a playoff run on bottom pair minutes

Sounds useful to a contender

I think Chara either

A) Goes to a Tier 1 contender and plays as a 7th D, mainly PK and very sheltered minutes
B) Goes to a rebuilding team and mentors a future promising D-man, say Seider/Dahlin etc.
C) Retires, but secretly goes back to Czech/Slovakia to unite with his childhood friends, maybe win a championship or two.

The NYI are done, they are going to be a seller at the deadline and I fully expect Chara to go my question is where is he the best fit?

When Ottawa played them he looked slow and lost despite the sens losing the game.

I guess he might go wherever a team is interested as I assume many wouldn't. Not everyone wants to get worse in the name of leadership and name recognition or else someone would sign jagr again.

He washed up. He had a HOF career but he is a liability at this point. I actually thought is was really bad in the playoffs last time I saw him on a regular basis 3 years ago.

Me too. When Ottawa beat Boston in the 2017 playoffs, I liked when he was on the ice because he couldn't keep up then. Similar to how I was excited when Ottawa put havlat on the ice against Stevens in his last couple years back in the day. Dangle city on the slow footed d.

Would have actually liked to see him in Buffalo as a mentor to Dahlin for a year, or even for Power next year. Unfortunately I don't see him having any interest in that or going to Buffalo for that matter. Wouldn't surprise me if he just stays on the Isles for the remainder of the season then calls it a career.

I can only guess that folks haven't seen him play. He's a liability. The only role he's effective at is enforcer. Tbh I' really don't want to see a guy that age play that role. It feels wrong.

The depth D teams will call about is Greene, would I could see bringing back a 3rd or 4th. He is still extremely reliably positionally, and can move okay. I expect that teams will call about Scott Mayfield, but with his still very low AAV next year I doubt NYI want to deal him when he could be a NYI's 3rd pairing RD when they reload for next year.

Chara in Toronto would be strange

Fwiw, it's been said that the Leafs offered more than the Bruins in 2006, and he wouldn't sign here out of loyalty to the Senators. That was 15 years ago, but worth noting.

I wonder how he'd look as a sort of passenger forward. You'd probably have preferred to have experimented with that in camp, but he's spent a lot of time in his career around the net on the powerplay. Might be something fun to play with.

He wouldn't even be in the league if his jersey didn't say Chara. Who cares if he's decent on the PK when he bleeds chances 5v5 worst than Tyson Barrie.
