Marner and Tavares being UFAs takes the choice away from management. Before, you didn't want to be the guy who makes a mistake by trading any of these guys. Now, especially after those last 2 home games, that's just not the case. Free agency is the perfect excuse for change.

They never needed a second 1C, and they may have missed whatever true window they had, because now Marner is probably gone(not that he has been a playoff guy), but you use that space on 3 or 4 guys instead of 2. Probably less splash. Can't replace Marner's 100pts. Don't even try. Make a different team. Probably not a contender, but there's only so much you can do at one time.
