Where do the Leafs go if they blow it yet again?

Cannot keep Marner or Tavares. You sell Rielly to anybody who’ll take him. Nylander actually seems pretty legit. I’m not 100% sold on Carlo and Tanev but they could be solid enough. McCabe is actually quite good. You give Knies a blank check. Offer Ottawa Matthews for Brady Tkachuk and pray they say yes. Trade some guys to Buffalo for some prospects. Try again in a couple years. And fire Shanahan. Coaching isn’t the problem but what has he done to keep his job

That would be one possible way of trying again.
I mean Florida did the hard thing but look what it’s gotten them. Leafs have never made the tough move. Overly loyal to guys who got them nothing. That is the problem. The players, from the outset, have been the problem. They have done everything but make a big change to the core group who has consistently underwhelmed other than some nice moments from Tavares and Nylander. Marner and Matthews have never ever met expectations for longer than a game or two. It’s just not enough.

I agree, they will have to do something to try again.

Hasn’t there been talk about them blowing it up ever since they lost to the Habs?
But so far they’ve changed coaches a few times, shuffled the bottom six and changed up the D.
Shanahan and ownership seem content with regular season success and one or two rounds of playoff revenue.
I’ll believe that they’re going to blow it up when I see it.

The Lightning got rid of 3-4 key guys in their cup runs before the leafs made any change to someone outside of the supporting cast of the core 4. GMs, players, coaches, etc. just seem really content with guys who have not proven it in about a decade’s worth of chances. You just gotta start over if Florida wins one more

They won’t do it because they have memories like goldfish

Before tonight they were telling us the team is different and they’re going all the way - everyone else saw this coming a mile off

Sure, starting over is one way of trying again.

At what point does this culture affect their ability to get free agents? How much extra would they need to pay a guy who really wants to win? It just doesn’t feel like they’re close
I know its hard to believe but some players want to play in Toronto. Not saying thats Bennett, I don't know.

But Bennett is from just outside of Toronto and I will take Bennett over Marner in the playoffs 7 days out of the week.

Signing Ehlers then replaces some of that lost offense from losing Marner for Bennett.

Leafs need to build themselves better for the playoffs

Forcing Matthews out seems crazy but if he puts up another zero points in the last game I genuinely fear for his safety in Toronto. These are traumatized people. Losing 4 in a row to end the season and Matthews puts up zero goals in the series just seems untenable. If you're hurt don't play. There's no excuse. Yzerman won a cup on one knee.
lol they still think he’s the best player in the nhl bro
