Does anyone of them need to be major point producers?
Looking at our current roster I'd say we're missing a 60-70 point forward (i.e. 1st line winger), ~2 forwards that can put up 40-60 points (i.e. improving our 2nd and 3rd lines) and a d-man that can produce ~30-40 points. (top pairing with Seider or 2nd pair with Ed).
If we had those things we're probably a shoe-in for the playoffs.
I get that another way to solve the team's issues would be to insert a 100 point forward and an 80 point d-man. But simply shoring up the depth of the team IS going to make this team quite a bit different.
But you have to factor in that Kane will be gone, and Larkin/DBC will be in their 30's and likely decline in production. That production has to be made up too.
