Where did Yzerman go wrong with the rebuild?

No Wings fans thought he would be a 60 pt player. He has never hit 60 pts ever.

Some were basing it on his production in NY, and Yzerman definitely must have thought there was some untapped offensive potential that finally came through in NY, or else there was no way he would give him that contract

I wasn't. I was bashing the signing when the ink was still wet. Same with Chiarot and Holl.
I don't know alot about the point totals but alot of fans were acting like smart asses and giving me sh*t when I said he sucked and wasn't a 2c when the guys had like 40 pts once lmao

Ppl saw a good rangers post season and thought he was a 2c lol think every fan unanimously hated holl

and I bashed compher signing day 1 and said he was never was never 2 c and I'll never change my mind. Petry trade was a headscratcher...didnt like the debrincat trade cause I thought we were moving a top 15 pick, was wrong on that one we fleeced the sens but dont think hes here longterm and I'd flip him if I were gm depending the player(s)coming back

Yzermans got some work to do now while we're waiting for the kids and remove some bad players

I don't have receipts but I recall more than one or two posters tooting their horns about Copp coming into his prime after signing him and how he had basically become a point a game player while with the Rangers in the regular season and playoffs. Those who are now saying otherwise have very selective memories.

I remember those posters. They were making instant excuses too saying he didn't have a training camp. The guy is a complete plug and I never wanted him. I don't care if he is from Michigan and played college with Larkin who gives a f*** about shit like this...

Quite a few people said that he's a legit 2C. How many points do you expect out of a 2C?

46 "centers" (as listed on NHL.com) scored 60 or more points last season, so 60 is a reasonable expectation out of a 2C. That explains why I said he's not a 2C and never will be. Somehow there are still a few people here trying to justify the crappy contract.

Anyways, Copp isn't THE problem, he's just a symptom. Stevie's UFA signings have been pretty miserable even for placeholders, except Talbot. He can use "building through the draft" as an excuse, but it looks to me that he's just afraid to make big moves to acquire talent both in UFA and trades. (DeBrincat being the exception as far as trades, all of the other big ones were as a seller, not a buyer.)

This team is gonna go through another rebuild if Danielson isn't a high end 2C, and the team won't be contenders unless he's a legit 1C. I suppose that could happen, he does have the tools. He'll need to drive the play more like Larkin does.

It’s funny how this thread started as a pseudo-troll to poke fun at people who were upset with the progress of the team. And now has become a legit discussion with some of the people who were saying Yzerman is doing a fantastic job being the ones who are worried now

Several people here said he was a #2C capable of 60-65 pts. Even last year some were saying he just has to get over his injury from the first year.
So based on imagenery posts on a message board, where also eldery people who play ball hockey write stupid stuff, you think that Yzerman was expecting Copp to be long-term solution capable of 60-65 points production, despite him never reaching this level till age of 28. I get it. It is for sure explains a lot of things to me that happened in state of Michigan in November.

I think you guys remember like one person maybe going around and twist it in your minds to act like 10-20 Red Wings fans were badgering you.

Convenient for you (and others) to forget or completely deny now too. Copp has gone from a 2C to a "we needed him for the salary floor" in 3 seasons. There's reasons we aren't going to get a sniff of the playoffs while going from salary floor to salary ceiling. Copp isn't the only one - just a good example.

This might not be completely Yzerman's fault. But something tells me a lot of his old Red Wing buddies that he has working for him aren't doing their jobs and/or giving him some bad advice.
