Right now I am looking at the roster and not overly optimistic.
If the only moves are to trade Wheeler and Dillon, one of whom should land a 2nd round pick that is missing from next year's draft, I'm not sure there's enough.
My projected lineup, based on what's here, for opening day would be
Connor-Dubois-Perfetti
Ehlers-Scheifele- (probably not Wheeler)
Harkins-Lowry-Appleton
Maenalanen-Gustafsson-Stenlund
Morrissey-De Melo
Samberg-Pionk
Heinola-Schmidt
Stanley as #7D, Toninato as #13F, with flexibility for callups.
Hellebuyck
Rittich
Moose
Malott-Barron-Lucius
Torgersson-Nikkanen-Reichel
Limoges-Bongiovanni-Eyssimont
Polei-Maier-Jones
with Meireles and Bilek as reserves
Copabianco-Kovacevic
Chisholm-Gawanke
Sauntner-Lundmark
Dean Stewart in reserve, with Ogilny out.
Berdin
Salminen
Cormier as the #3 on the Moose, if Berdin gets called up.
Holm in the ECHL, trying to work his way up.
Barron, Reichel, Kovacevic, Chisholm as the probable Jets callups.
There's some competition though that Kovacevic or Copabianco could end up #7 if Stanley beat Heinola out of camp, Both Barron and Reichel could win spots, so unlike most years the Jets should come out motivated with that competition being a motivator.
However I think that's a Jets lineup that has to win more 3-2 games than 4-3 games. Not a lot of secondary scoring, but hopefully tighter defensively.
I think there's still time to add some players, which could change the dynamic. The trade values of Wheeler and Dillon probably do not tip the scales.
I'd say the Jets are looking right now like a middle of the pack team in the Central, with Colorado on top then Chicago and Arizona the closest to the tank position.
