When will Sidney Crosby retire

Pretty well all the legends hit at least 39 it seems like. With enough of them getting to 40+.

More recently despite the game seemingly getting faster you've had Recchi, Selanne and Jagr pushing deeper into their 40s and that's forwards.

So as others have said it's about him switching teams. Honestly does it matter though? Not like Pens faithful will boo him in the least. Would be an upgraded Modano/Alfredsson situation at worst if it's not like Bourque going to a stacked team.

So I voted 40 finishing in 2028. Then there's the question of him caring about some of the longevity records. Does finishing 2nd to Gretz or even hitting 2,000 matter?? I think a 4th Cup matters.

He's still great but he is slowing down. And that's ok, he's 36. Prime Crosby wouldn't be 20-30th in scoring.

One of the things I find most remarkable about Crosby’s career, now that we’re entering his twilight years, is that he could very well reach 1500 games played, which would be within the top 25 all-time.

I think most of the hockey world and myself would have considered the odds of that being close to nil in 2012 when there was so much talk about how much of a career he could possibly have left.

I feel like he'll pull a Gretzky and retire when he knows he can't play at an elite level or at the very least, 1st line level. Even if he could still be a solid contributor for a few more years.

This is my feeling as well but he signs at least another 1 year deal and plays in the 26 Olympics.

That is actually not a bad guess.

The only thing I'm certain of is he won't retire after the current contract ends, barring a catastrophic injury or a huge dropoff. He'll sign 1-year deals from here on out though.
