With Fleury’s retirement he will become the only remaining active player who played prior to the lockout

UFA this summer who just turned 40 in March, seemed eager to continue playing for as long as he could in October 2023

Yeah he’s not retiring anytime soon, he ages slowly compared to others and it’s obvious at this point

I think he's got at least one more go-round in him

he's in a good situation on a killer team and is in good physical shape

Will Brent Burns retire?
More significant is when will he shave?

Are the Canes really a killer team though?

They seem to underachieve in the playoffs compared to expectations all the time.

Part of me thinks/hopes that if he had a SC he would retire in San Jose mentoring the next wave of Dickinson and perhaps Schaefer.

He probably won't make it there. He's already 40 and is 90 points away from 1000. Scored 29 points this year so even if he keeps the same production as he gets older, thats another three seasons.

I don't think it's out of reach necessarily, if he goes to a different team. Gostisbehere eating into a ton of his potential PP time really capped his production a bit artificially. Plenty of teams where he'd still be the primary go-to Powerplay QB/defenceman. Which i think would probably bump him back up closer to that ~45pts a year he'd need over the next couple seasons to get there. I don't think it's outrageous to think that playing a more secondary role on the powerplay could've cost him ~15 pts this year.

Couple that with the fact that he still looks like he's got plenty of legs left to get around the ice just fine and the ease with which he seems able to absorb minutes still...and i could certainly see him hitting that threshold if he wants to.

The only thing that makes me wonder, is that he's kind of a weirdo and he might just end up being a guy who retires before he really needs to...so he can spend more time with his weird ass pets and stuff.
