When was the last time the leafs were on global?

It might be a good opportunity to complain that you cannot hear the Jays game on radio anymore.

Try being a Leafs/Jays fan down here in Windsor - we are within Detroit's footprint (despite it being a totally different country), so it's next to impossible to get games on radio from 1070 Sarnia last I checked/tried.

And a few years ago, people down this way were trying to get a petition going to show Red Wings games on Saturday nights instead of the Leafs on Hockey Night In CANADA.

You probably have to reach all the way back into the 80's for the Leafs on Global.
For some reason, I think Jiggs McDonald was the PxP and Dick Beddows had a post game show/commentary.

Sports line started in the early 80's with Tatti (I thnk) and Bob McCown.
It was great in it's hey day but I think the advent of sports networks and their Sports Desk/Center type shows pretty much killed it by the mid 90's.
I think it remained in some part until into the 2000's.
Bedows was on channel 11 which broadcasts out of Hamilton

I think Sportsline with Tatti and Hebscher probably went off the air sometime in the mid 90s.

As a young Leafs fan living in Eastern Canada, we were fortunate enough to get CHCH 11 in our cable package. I remember watching Henny hosting the games on CHCH. When they switched to Global I was out of luck since we only got the Edmonton Global station (Gretzky benefits). I do remember though, our cable provider used to put many of the Leafs games that were aired on CIII on channel 24 (random vacant channel for us I guess)... illegally most likely since it was the raw broadcast, no commercials. I am sure they picked up the signal via satellite somehow. We got a split of Leafs and Habs on Saturday nights sadly... it was a battle to catch the games on TV and we did not get them on radio. In the pre TSN days there was a lot of trying to catch the 1215pm sports report on CBC.

I remember watching Toronto Toros and WHA hockey on Global back in the day.

Global showed leafs games until at least 1996

I was literally singing this song in my head while reading the thread. I'm so glad you found it. Thank you!

Some great memories on this thread.
2 things.
1 Correct me if I'm wrong. Bob McCown was the original guy on Sportsline. I'm pretty sure he was. Was a pretty good sports guy until he got a big ego.

2 I remember Bob Coles first game as Leaf announcer. Boy was I bored. Guess thats from growing up on Foster.

Funny how things changed loved my Bob Cole.

I remember watching the local broadcast on an old B&W TV with rabbit ears in the 90s.

I always thought paying a premium for cable was silly:

A paid subscription and be exposed to advertising? Yeah right.

The last few years I would catch the Leafs on CBC using a digital antenna. This season they stopped showing TOR locally forcing people to subscribe to cable in order to see TOR play.

I don't know why cable companies have to be so thoroughly greedy.

End of rant.

Sorry.
It should be free to air.
