Nope. the 11/7 thing makes it even less likely the Leafs will put anybody with no NHL experience in the lineup with how high stakes things are this season.

he'll battle for a job next year.
I think what he brings will make it impossible to keep him out. We will just have to wait and see.

Frozen 4 ends with 3 games left in the regular season. Not a ton of time.

Knies plays for the University of Minnesta in the Big 10 Conference. This Saturday, March 18, Minnesota plays Michigan for the B10 Championlship. The winner of that game and the winners of the other 5 conferences all get automatic invitations to the 16 team championship tournament .

A selection commitee then chooses 10 other teams to fill out the 16 team slate. This will be done on Sunday March 19. Given that Minnesota is currently ranked #1 in the country, it is virtually guaranteed that even if they lose the B10 Championship, they will be invited to the tournament.

The 16 teams will be slotted and seeded in th 4 regional tournaments (4 teams in each regional). This will also be done on March 19.

From March 23 - 26, the four regional tournaments will be held. These are very simple single elimination tournaments (2 semifinal games and a final). Two regionals play the semifinals on March 23; the other two on March 24. The finals are 2 days later. This is the first point at which Minnesota could be eliminated. So, theorhetical, if Minnesota loses their semi, Knies would be available to sign on March 23 or 24. If Minnesota wins their semi and lose the final, Knies would be available to sign on March 25 or 26.

The four winners of the regionals advance to the Frozen Four tournament. It is similar in structure to the regionals with 2 senifinal games on April 6 and the final on April 8. If Minnesota makes it this far, Knies would be available on April 6 (if Minnesota loses seni) or April 8 (if Minnesota wins semi)..

So, basically, here are the possible dates that Knies could sign after and the number of regular seasons he could play (assuming that he'd be signed and available to play 2 days after Minnesota's elimination).

March 23 - 11 games
March 24 - 10 games
March 25 or 26 - 9 games
April 6 - 4 games
April 8 - 3 games

As Rojac says, if Minnesota loose out around the 25th, 9 NHL games is better chance to see what he’s got. If they win out they will have 3 games before playoffs. Either way, he’ll need some dominant games to get into a playoff lineup.

At best he'll have two games to get ready for the playoffs. Doubt Keefe is dumb enough to toss him into the playoffs with zero nhl experience under his belt.
Yeah for sure, but, and it's a big one! LeaFland will be demanding it

My eyes rolled off my head.

Let's say after Knies plays a couple of games with the Leafs, they feel he can handle a playoff game. So, they put him in and if it becomes apparent that he can't., they staple him to the bench for the rest of that game and play 11-6. For the forwards, 11-6 is no different than 11-7. For the defense, it's no different than 12-6, If they're willing to play either 11-7 or 12-6 in the playoffs, then I don't see a major problem with putting Knies in a playoff game.

If it becomes apparent because he does something dumb that costs us a goal, that could cost us a game. It's the playoffs so IMO you don't play him unless you're sure he's ready.

I’m calling it now… Knies scores against Tampa in round one.

This kid has one of the greatest opportunities, that any young hockey player has ever had… he’s going to help us win.

I see a lot of people are already penciling him into the 2nd line, but expectations need to be tempered. There's a strong possibility he doesn't even play in the playoffs.

Maybe not dumb enough...

But desperate enough.

Keefe still plays Kerfoot on the first line. NEVER under estimate him.

He’d have to push someone out and that someone is likely ZAR. I can’t see him being less effective. If he can throw the occasional hit he’s at worst equivalent
